Thomas Mahasoh, 41, a waiter, of Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, Solihull, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court. He had pleaded not guilty at the start of the trial but changed his plea to guilty part way through, of two counts of grievous bodily harm. An 18-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his stomach which was initially life threatening, and a man aged 20 was stabbed in the leg after a fight broke out at the party being held near the Crawley Lawn Tennis Club in Hazelwick Avenue at 3.45am on 7 July last year. All three had been at the party, held by a relative of Mahasoh, when a fight started and spilled out into the street where the two were stabbed. Detective Inspector Mark Cullimore said; "Mahasoh quickly fled the scene and soon afterwards drove home to Solihull, but was later identified with the help of some brave witnesses who contacted the police. Thankfully both victims have recovered. The sentence reflects the seriousness of the offences he committed and we are very grateful for the assistance of local people particularly in the local Zimbabwean community, whose understanding was invaluable. They can be re-assured by the outcome that police will always take this type of incident seriously and will work to support local law-abiding people." original report return to previous window Fire & Rescue - Call Ref: 14218 Time: 07:20-07:48 Location: A29 WHITEWAYS NEAR ARUNDEL Incident: RTC on roundabout involving 2 cars - 1 male adult in car medically assessed by ambulance paramedics before being assisted from car and taken to hospital by ambulance - inspection only by WSF&RS - incident left with police - WrL Littlehampton POLICE report - Ref: PR44379 / 2014 10 January 2014 Location: JJ Whispers nightclub, High Street, Crawley Incident: Request for Crawley nightclub licence to be revoked Sussex Police has submitted a review application to Crawley Borough Council on JJ Whispers nightclub, High Street, Crawley, requesting that the licence be revoked following incidents of drunkeness, sexual assaults and drunk and disorderly behaviour within the premises and in the immediate area. He suffered pelvic injuries and fire and rescue crews were called in to free him. The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance also stood by to assist. The man, 58, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. On the B2141 at Chilgrove, near Chichester, at least 10 vehicles were involved in separate crashes after coming to grief on sheet ice. No injuries were reported. The dual carriageway B2070 London Road near Rake, on the Sussex-Hampshire border, also turned icy, and at least five vehicles left the road and collided with trees or the central reservation. No injuries were reported. Three vehicles collided on the B2133 Harbolets Road at 7.50am, leading to it being closed between its junctions with Broadford Bridge Road and the B2139 Coolham Road while emergency services attended. All three drivers were reported to have suffered minor injuries. Again, sheet ice was present. At 8am a woman driver was left with chest and abdominal pains and a man driving another vehicle suffered shock after they collided on Dunsfold Road just to the west of Plaistow. Two cars left the road and collided with hedges at Barnsfold Farm, Loxwood, near Billingshurst, at around 9.15am but no injuries were reported. At 8.52am a car skidded into a ditch after encountering ice near Maple Farm, Marches Road , between the A29 Bognor Road and Kingsfold. The woman driver was unhurt. At 8.36am a woman and her son suffered minor leg injuries after their car skidded on black ice outside Conies Farm on Maplehurst Road north of its junction with the A272 Cowfold Road and went into a hedge. They were out of their car when a second vehicle collided with it, again having skidded on ice. Police have warned motorists to beware of sudden changes in temperature which can lead to ice forming on road surfaces, particularly now that many are damp from recent rainfall. Phillip Brown, a driver in his forties, of Selsey, West Sussex has been convicted at Lewes Crown Court today, of the murder of Debbie Levey, 44, whose body was found at her home, Cherry Tree Cottage on the B2178 in East Ashling, West Sussex, on Monday morning 28 January 2013. Sentencing was adjourned to Monday 3 February. Detective Superintendent Ian Pollard, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "This was a complex and painstaking investigation. We worked very closely with forensic scientists and the pathologist, as well as with the Crown Prosecution Service and our counsel, Mark Dennis QC, to show that Brown's claim never to have been in Debbie's home on the day of her death was a lie. He evidently thought he could mask his evil act of smothering Debbie with a string of distractions, false clues and stories. But we were eventually able to show, to the satisfaction of the jury, that he was indeed the killer, and justice has now been done for Debbie, and her family. We pay tribute to her family, all of whom have borne the ordeal of the past 12 months with great dignity and fortitude. In particular the court evidence of Debbie's 17-year old daughter was clearly compelling." initial report Fire & Rescue - Call Ref: 15238 Time: 09:55-10:09 Location: DOMESTIC GARAGE - ORCHARD ROAD, BURGESS HILL Incident: FIRE electrical fire in tumble dryer in garage - 1 Co2 extinguisher used by WSF&RS and electrics isolated - tumble dryer removed from garage WrL Burgess Hill POLICE report - Ref: PR44612 / 2014 Time: 1pm Location: High Street, Bognor Regis Incident: Did you see women fighting in the street in Bognor Regis? The woman had finished her shopping on Thursday morning, 30 January, when a man knocked on her car window and pointed out a long nail in her tyre. She got out to investigate and he took withdrew it from the tyre. It was later at home that she found two bank cards had been taken from her handbag that had been in the car and £300 taken from each. Sgt Julian Williams said: "It seems the woman was distracted while another person stole her bank cards. I urge people that when someone grabs your attention, for whatever reason, know that your bag and wallet are secure. It is possible that someone saw her enter her pin number at the checkout. We would advise always to cover the screen when inputting the number and realise that thieves can sometimes act in pairs or groups. We are investigating this incident and want people to be aware." The man she saw is described as Eastern European, slim, with collar length light brown hair, blue eyes and wearing a beige coat. On 22 January there were two similar incidents in Tesco car parks in Hailsham and Uckfield where an Eastern European woman and man tricked the drivers in checking their tyres for nails and a purse and debit card were stolen.
