Horse dies in Pulborough - believed deliberate attack
A horse had to be destroyed after it became entangled in an electric fence to such an extent that its owners believe it was targetted in a deliberate act.
The horse, called George, was discovered in a field in Blackgate Lane, Pulborough, on Tuesday, 9 September. It was lying on the ground with the electric fence line wrapped tightly several times around its left fore and hind legs. It was released, but the incident had caused irreparable injuries to both legs and George, sadly, had to be put to sleep a few days later.
Luke Welfare and Zoe Walker, who run Soul Equestrian at Scrase Farm, believe that someone was responsible for an attack on the horse. Zoe said: "At first we thought it was just an unfortunate accident where George had got himself tangled up in the fence. However, the number of times that the fence line was wrapped around each foot aroused our suspicions and we called the police. Unfortunately, the line was so tight that it cut off circulation to both feet and the vet was unable to save them or ultimately, George."

George
Police would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the incident or who has experienced anything similar. Police are appealing for witnesses after two motorcyclists died after their bikes collided with a car in Chuck Hatch.

The motorcyclists were on a white Yamaha R1 and a red Kawasaki ZX600 heading south that collided with a green Range Rover at the junction. Family pay tribute to victim of Chuck Hatch crash
The family of a 19-year-old man who was killed in a crash in Chuck Hatch have paid tribute to him.
Thomas Dawes, of Medway Drive, Forest Row, and 20-year-old Luke Power, of North Street, Turners Hill, died after their motorbikes collided with a Range Rover on 14 September.
Linda Dawes, the mother of Thomas, said: "There is a huge void in our lives without Thomas. Our home seems very quiet - it often seemed like a bikers' cafe when he had all his friends around.
"His brother, Adam, has lost his best buddy. They were extremely close. He will be sorely missed by his father Peter

Thomas Dawes
stepfather Paul, his grandparents and the rest of the family. Thomas had a huge smile on his face all the time. He was caring and helpful and had hundreds of friends who he was never too busy for. He was a hard worker and saved for his motorbikes from his wages, right from his first paper round. He worked at Mid Sussex Timber and was made head of yard, when he had only been there for six months."
"He was a very loving grandson and was often at his granny's house doing jobs for her and digging her garden."
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their lovely cards, for the flowers I have received and for the generosity and support of everyone, in particular Sarah Chapman, my best friend, who has been with myself and Paul on a daily basis, helping us at this devastating time, with all the necessary arrangements. Life goes on but Thomas will never be forgotten. He will always be loved and in our hearts and thoughts forever. He was born to be wild."
The funeral of both men will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Forest Row at 2.30pm on Tuesday 30 September.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the crash or anyone who saw any of the vehicles in the minutes beforehand.

Woman imprisoned for false allegation
A woman has been sent to prison for making a false allegation that her partner threatened to kill her.
Emily Checksfield, 41, of Owen Square, Deal, appeared at Lewes Crown Court today and was sentenced to four years imprisonment, having been convicted on 12 September of perverting the course of justice after a trial. She was found not guilty of a separate alleged offence of burglary.
In April 2012 Checksfield alleged that a now ex-partner had threatened to kill her with a Samurai sword at an address they then shared. He was arrested and after an investigation was charged on the authority of the CPS. However within weeks he had recorded a conversation with her in which she acknowledged that the allegation was false. She then hurriedly contacted police to try to withdraw the allegation.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Ling said; "Checksfield had put this man through the ordeal of a convincing allegation, arrest, charge, initial court appearance and, for a while, a remand in custody until he secured bail."

While returning to station the inshore lifeboat was called to a dinghy in difficulty inside the harbour near the lifeboat station. RNLI Hayling Lifeboat HAYLING LIFEBOAT
Time: 11.45am
Incident: Three men and a dog rescued.
Solent Coastguard received a call from a power boat that reported it had equipment failure, so he asked the D-Class to divert from its training exercise to assist. A second call from the power boat stated that the skipper 'thought they could be near the Chichester Harbour Entrance.' Owing to the weather conditions in the harbour mouth, the Coastguard then asked the Atlantic 85 to divert and assist. Once at the Chichester Harbour Entrance no vessel in trouble could be seen and since the casualty had no radio it could not be found using direction finding equipment. So a search was instigated involving both lifeboats and after a third call which suggested they were SW of the Bar Beacon they were found, clearly waving a bright orange fender for help and being ignored by passing yachts! There were 3 on board + a dog all very sensibly wearing lifejackets, including the dog. The D-Class rigged a tow and took them into Sparkes Marina.

Series of burglaries in Worthing
Police are appealing for witnesses to a series of burglaries in Worthing.
Officers believe six break-ins in the town between 22 September and 29 September could have been committed by the same people.
The first burglary happened between 2.45pm and 6.15pm on Monday 22 September when electrical items and jewellery were stolen from a home in Aldsworth Avenue. Among the items taken was a men's Gucci wristwatch with a silver and gold face and an inscription on the back similar to "To Colin celebrating 10 years at ICCS".
On 24 September intruders broke into a home in Lanfranc Road between 8.55am and 4.05pm and stole a camera and cash.
Between 9am and 5.50pm on 26 September a home in Smugglers Walk was broken into and electrical items worth more than £4,000 were taken.
A home in Oxford Road was burgled between midnight and 6am on 28 September and the keys to a black Audi A3 and a black Renault Clio were taken. The cars were then driven away.
The fifth and sixth burglaries happened in Grand Avenue on 29 September between 8am and 5.30pm. The thieves escaped with two iPads and cash.
Detective Constable Jamie Carruthers said: "We believe the same people have committed each of these burglaries and need the public's help to identify those involved. As two cars were stolen in one of the break-ins, there must be at least two people involved and could be more. We need to speak to people who were in the area of the burglaries in the last couple of weeks who saw anyone acting suspiciously on the days of the crimes or the days before. You might have information that is important to our investigation without knowing it so please tell us anything you might have seen or heard."
Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 1344 of 22/09 or email sussex.pnn.police.uk
Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
