SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR46085 / 2014 Location: Lloyds TSB building, The Causeway, Goring Incident: Rave disrupted at derelict office block in Worthing Two generators and a large amount of sound equipment were seized by police who disrupted a planned rave in an abandoned building in Worthing tonight. Police were alerted to people entering the old Lloyds TSB building in The Causeway in Goring-by-Sea just after 10.30pm. Officers arrived quickly at the scene and were able to deter people from entering. Three people were arrested as officers discovered that the sound equipment was being set up on the roof of the derelict office block. Inspector Allan Lowe said: "Early notification from a member of the public enabled us to move quickly to close down this rave, which would have caused significant disruption to the local community. What was particularly disturbing was that hundreds of people were being drawn to the rave in what would have been a very hazardous environment. There are ceilings falling down, wires sticking out, numerous trip hazards and no indication of the state of electricity or water supplies inside. The dangers were enough to prevent a full search of the building until daylight and the consequences of having several hundred people inside in the dark, under the influence of drink or drugs and with no safety or evacuation precautions, are extremely worrying at the very least." A 23-year-old woman from Worthing and a 22-year-old man of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of burglary other than dwelling and criminal damage. An 18-year-old man from Goring-by-Sea was arrested on suspicion of burglary other than dwelling. Harry Smith, aged 18, of Haleybridge Walk, Tangmere, appeared at Chichester Crown Court for sentencing after he last month admitted causing death by dangerous driving and two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in a fatal collision on the A285 at Halnaker in September 2013. Judge Christopher Parker QC also disqualified Smith from driving for 4 years and ordered him to take an extended re-test before holding a licence again. The court heard that Smith was driving a Vauxhall Corsa car travelling south, when it came off the road and overturned. Passenger Jasmine Elkasmi, 16, of Carlton Avenue, Bognor, died of her injuries. Two other 16-year-old girl passengers who were in the car were seriously injured, one being left paralysed from the waist down and other suffering facial and dental injuries. Neither can be named for legal reasons. Afrer the hearing, Sergeant Paul Wood, of the Arundel road policing unit, said: "Smith was 17 at the time of the collision and he had only held his driving licence for about seven weeks. He had been stopped by police before the collision on a number of occasions due to the manner of his driving and he had been issued with a section 59 warning, which meant that if he had been stopped again, his vehicle would have been seized. A girl died as a result of his dangerous driving and 2 girls were left with serious injuries, one of them life-changing." original report FIRE & RESCUE - Call Ref: 5181 Time: 10:07-11:11 Location: SLIP ROAD TO SERVICE STATION - A259 WESTBOUND, LITTLEHAMPTON Incident: FIRE coach on fire - 2BA, 2 fog HRs used by WSF&RS - police in attendance for traffic control - accidental - WrLx2 Littlehampton FIRE & RESCUE - Call Ref: 5185 Time: 11:39-12:41 Location: CONSTRUCTION SITE - SOUTHVIEW ROAD, SOUTHWICK Incident: RESCUE Assistance to paramedics - workman on scaffolding with back injury - man brought to ground level by WSF&RS using on site JCB and safety equipment - taken to hospital by ambulance - WrL Shoreham FIRE & RESCUE - Call Ref: 5200 Time: 16:08-18:24 Location: SERVICE STATION - BRIGHTON ROAD, PEASE POTTAGE Incident: RTC collision involving car at service station in collision with LPG pump - station evacuated before arrival of WSF&RS - gas supply and electricity isolated and safety cordon set up by WSF&RS - incident handed over to Gas Engineer and Service Manager WrLx2 Crawley SELSEY LIFEBOAT Time: 6.26pm Pagham Incident: RNLI Selsey saves 5 girls cut Off by tide Selsey Lifeboat crew were paged at 6.26 pm.
