Driver dies, four passengers injured
Sunday 2am.
An Easebourne man was killed when the Ford saloon he was driving crashed into a tree outside houses in Bepton Road, Midhurst.
Simon Day aged 37 died at the scene. Rescue crews from Midhurst and Chichester Fire Service cut him free from the wreckage.
Four other passengers, male and female, aged between 16 and 22, were taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester.

Church fire fails to halt services
Christmas services went ahead at St Mary's priory church, Easebourne, without a hitch, despite a fire on Wednesday last week which could have been catastrophic.
It started when heat from a halogen bulb in the choir vestry set alight a storage box which had accidently been moved close to it.
Although the fire was confined to the vestry, it is estimated to have cost thousands of pounds.
The vestry will have to be rewired and redecorated because of heat and smoke damage, the robes of around a dozen members of the 25-strong choir were burned, and all the church's Easter service books, which were stored in the vestry, were destroyed.

Incident: RTC - 2 vehicles - no persons trapped - 3 males 2 females conveyed to hospital by ambulance - vehicles and highway made safe - incident left with Police

In the above incident a 47-year-old Northchapel man Mr. Alan Clifford died after his Ford Escort car collided with a London taxi on a bend just north of Northchapel.
The local man a father of two, died as a result of his injuries, the 5 occupants of the taxi being driven south received slight injuries.
Mr. Clifford was the co-founder and managing director of the Methvens bookstore chain.

Press Release:
At about 7pm on Wednesday, December 27, a Ford Escort Cabriolet being driven north on the A283 at Northchapel, collided with a London Taxi being driven south.
The driver of the Ford, a 47 year old local man died, the driver of the taxi and four other occupants received slight injuries.
PS Damian Merrifield, Road Policing Department, Chichester, is asking witnesses to contact him on 0845 60 70 999, quote Operation Elswick.

Incident: Fire - house of 3 floors - fire in 1st floor and roof rooms - 30% of 1st floor damaged by fire - 10% of roof area damaged by fire - 4BA, 2HR, ALP - hot areas cut away - ventilation and salvage - 1 adult male with mild smoke inhalation - WrLx2 Chichester, WrL Bognor, WrL Midhurst, WrL Bosham, L4T Bognor, WrL East Wittering, BASU Shoreham, WrL Shoreham, ALP Worthing, WrL Selsey, Control Unit Haywards Heath, WrC Littlehampton
