Sunday 24th February 2008
At 12:22 today Midhurst fire service was called to Budgens supermarket with reports that a vehicle had gone through the wall of the building. An appliance from Midhurst was soon on the scene followed by a HRT [Heavy Rescue Tender] sent from Chichester. On arrival it was discovered that a car had accidentally reversed into, and gone through, one of the main walls of the store. No persons were trapped or injured. The fire brigade inspected the structure of the building and the area concerned was cordoned off. The incident was left with shop management. It was witnessed by Mr. & Mrs. Todd of Burnley, Lancs., who were waiting to pay for their shopping when "the wall suddenly exploded, at first I thought a bomb had gone off" stated Mr. Todd. "Then we could see a car rear pushing through the wall, it was a miracle no-one was killed". The couple are visiting friends in Graffham.
