SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR49648 / 2015
Report received: 28 August 2015
Crawley man jailed for causing death by dangerous driving
A man was jailed for seven years today for causing death by dangerous driving after he lost control of his car in Crawley, collided with a fence and his girlfriend was thrown from the vehicle.
Lewes Crown Court heard that Minesh Parbat, 36, of Gregory Close, Maidenbower, Crawley, was driving his BMW Z3 sports car west along Crawley Avenue at 1.40am on Sunday 9 March 2014 when it left the road and collided with a fence. His girlfriend, Lisa Watling, 28, who was a passenger, tragically died later in hospital from her injuries.
Parbat, who was also over the drink-drive limit, denied the charge but a jury found him guilty after a

Minesh Parbat
six-day trial. The alcohol level in his blood was 102 milligrammes in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. He also received a three-and-a-half year driving ban which he will serve when released from prison.
Lisa's family said: "Our lives have been ripped apart leaving a wound that will never fully heal, no matter how much times passes. For Lisa's children there is no justice. Their mum will not be coming home with us today. She is gone forever and there is no justice in that."
Sergeant Clare Kenward said: "Parbat has blamed everyone but himself throughout and has caused the family of Lisa Watling a huge amount of distress. I hope the verdict and sentencing goes some way to easing their pain."

£10,000 reward in Bosham murder case
Detectives investigating the murder of Valerie Graves have made a very specific appeal for witnesses to come forward to help find her killer.
Valerie was found dead with serious head and facial injuries at a house in Smugglers Lane, Bosham, on Monday, December 30. The 55-year-old had been staying at the property while the owners were away over the Christmas period. Since the murder, officers have interviewed more than 200 people and taken over 100 statements as part of the investigation, but feel there may still be witnesses with important information who have not yet come forward.
Detective Superintendent Nick May of Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: "This was a savage attack, where a significant level of violence was used. We know that a hammer, found nearby in Hoe Lane, was used by the offender and we are seeking the public's help to catch this person before they hurt someone else. We particularly appeal to anyone who knows personally, has met professionally, or has a relationship with someone who is violent and who may have used, talked about or threatened violence with a hammer in the past. You may have your own concerns or suspicions about this person already, but for your own reasons have not yet come forward. Let me reassure you that we can support you whatever your concerns, but this person must be caught. I would also repeat our appeal for anyone who was in the area of Smuggler's Lane, Hoe Lane or nearby on the afternoon of Sunday 29 December to 10am or Monday 30 December. If you saw anything suspicious or have noticed anyone acting strangely since I urge you to contact us, no matter how incidental you may think your information to be - it could be a vital clue."
Sussex Police are offering a reward of £10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
Detectives, supported by neighbourhood policing officers, are visiting more than 700 homes in the area in their effort to gather any information that can help them in the investigation.
Extra patrols continue in the area and the neighbourhood policing team is available in Bosham to speak to residents about their concerns. In addition to the extra patrols, from Tuesday, March 18, there will be daily opportunities to speak to a local officer from 11am-12 noon outside the Bosham Craft Centre in Bosham Lane and from 7-8pm outside the Co-op store in Delling Lane.

FIRE REPORT
FIREFIGHTERS TACKLING BLAZE AT MILLAIS SCHOOL IN HORSHAM
More than 30 firefighters are tackling a blaze at Millais School in Horsham. The fire is now under control and there are no reported injuries.
All staff and pupils were safely evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were called to the school on Depot Road at 14.52 this afternoon after a fire was reported on the 3rd floor of the 3-storey building. Firefighters from Horsham were at the scene within 7 minutes of the alarm being raised. On arrival smoke was seen issuing from the roof so four additional crews were immediately requested. Crews are fighting the fire using 8 breathing apparatus wearers, 6 jets as well as an aerial ladder platform so the blaze can be tackled from above.
Depot Road is currently closed between the junction with Orchard Road to the west and Comptons Lane to the east. Police are advising parents wishing to collect their children to do so via Highlands Road to the south of the school.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation

Fire at Millais School in Horsham being treated as a crime
Sussex Police can confirm that the fire at Millais School on 20 March is now being treated as a crime.
This follows an extensive examination of the scene by both Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service that suggests that the fire was started either deliberately or recklessly.
The effective smoke alarm system and efficient emergency evacuation procedure meant that students and staff were able to leave the building quickly, without panic or injury, after the fire was discovered.
A comprehensive criminal investigation is now underway to identify both the exact cause of the fire and those responsible. Officers, supported by fire service staff, are working closely with Millais School to ensure that this investigation can be progressed effectively whilst minimising the continued disruption to the pupils, staff and daily functioning of the school. It is likely that there will be a police presence at the school for a number of days as this investigation progresses and we are keen to hear from anyone that may have information.

SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR45076 / 2014
Motorcyclist dies in collision on A29 at Bury, near Arundel
Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision on the A29 at Bury, near Arundel.
It occurred at 10.34am just south of the Murco garage when a black Kawasaki motorcycle travelling north was in collision with a blue Audi A4 car travelling south. Sadly, the motorcyclist, 37-year-old, Oliver Bird of Beach Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, died at the scene. The driver of the Audi, a 69-year-old woman from Pulborough, suffered minor injuries.
Sergeant Rob Baldwin, of the Sussex Road Policing Unit, said: "I would urge any witness we have not yet spoken with to contact us. We would particularly like to talk to a group of motorcyclists who were travelling northbound on the A29 at Bury just before the collision occurred, and who I believe would have seen what happened."
The road was closed for six hours while investigation and recovery work took place.
Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Guardian.

RNLI Hayling Lifeboat HAYLING LIFEBOAT
Time: 11:00
Incident: Fire on boat
Whilst on exercise the Atlantic 85 crew spotted a motor boat in the Chichester Harbour entrance with clouds of smoke billowing from it. They went alongside and it was clear that the five crew and large dog needed to be immediately evacuated into the lifeboat. VHF calls were put out to the Coastguard, the Fire & Rescue Service and to request the D-Class lifeboat to assist. A crew member closed all the hatches onboard the casualty vessel to starve the fire of oxygen and then the crew and dog were brought ashore at the Lifeboat Station. The D-Class lifeboat put a line onto the motor boat and towed her to a position close to the Lifeboat Station to await the Fire Service.

A working smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you're awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke and will give you that early warning that could make the difference.
