Minutes later police were called to Tesco in Broad Piece, Littlehampton, where Judge had grabbed a bottle of wine from a shelf, took into the toilets and begun drinking it. He became aggressive when staff challenged him and police arrived, matching Judge to the description given by the victim in Terminus Road. Judge was arrested, questioned and then charged with breaking into the house and stealing the wine. The next day Judge, of Inwood Road, Liss, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court. They were reported as being at the top of the Thorney Channel. Both lifeboats were launched with the Atlantic going to search up Thorney Channel and the D-Class searching up Emsworth Channel. Although the weather was clear and a bright moon came out it proved necessary for the Atlantic crew to let off parachute flares to search the shallower water to the east side of Thorney Channel. The Coastguard helicopter joined the search covering both channels and the East Head. With many bonfires and fireworks being let off to the north of both channels it was decided that these had been mistaken for red flares, unless of course they had been red flares used as part of a private bonfire party full report return to previous window Time: 23:58 Incident: Lifeboats launch to search for missing sailor Both the all weather and inshore lifeboats were launched to help search for a missing man after he failed to return home from a sailing trip and his 70ft luxury motor vessel was discovered drifting within Brighton Marina. They were joined in the search by the Brighton and Newhaven lifeboats and the land based coastguard rescue teams as well as the coastguard rescue helicopter. After a 11-hour search of the area in heavy rain and thunderstorms the search was called off at 11.15am on Monday 10 November. The man was not found. full report SEE ABOVE SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR47377 / 2014 Police making enquiries after yachtsman's disappearance An extensive search for a missing yachtsman, whose boat was found drifting at Brighton marina, has now been suspended. Sussex Police has named the yachtsman as Len King, 74, from Alfriston. and is now treating his disappearance as a missing person enquiry. Talking of his disappearance his wife Stephanie said: "Len is an experienced yachtsman and has been sailing since he was at least 20. Normally we go together but during the week if its calm weather he may go off by himself. He went off just before lunch. I was expecting him home for dinner time. I phoned him several times but his phone was unable to connect so I thought he was on his way back. I called the person who has a boat next to us and he thought we were away. I can't understand what has happened. He is a very experienced yachtsman. He has all his equipment doubled up and is always careful. That is the way he runs things." Insp Roy Apps said: "It is an anxious time for the family. The search is currently suspended and we are liaising with his family as we investigate the circumstances of his disappearance. An experienced seaman Mr King had left Brighton Marina on his yacht on Sunday afternoon and it is unclear as to what has happened to him. A friend reported him missing to the Coastguard at around 9.50pm last night as he had not returned home. His Sunseeker boat was then found unmanned near the harbour wall at Brighton Marina. An extensive search was carried out by the Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue teams, Shoreham, Newhaven and Brighton lifeboats along with the Coastguard helicopter from Lee-on Solent and this has now been suspended until new information comes to light." MAN RESCUED FROM CULVERT IN HAYWARDS HEATH Firefighters and a specialist ambulance service team rescued a homeless man from a culvert in Haywards Heath. West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was called to the stretch of culvert at the rear of the Princess Royal Hospital on Lewes Road in Haywards Heath at 9.51pm. The 44-year old man is believed to have been living rough in the culvert when he became ill and unable to move. Two fire crews from Haywards Heath were at the scene within minutes of the 999 call being received. Working alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team [HART] in dark and slippery conditions, firefighters used a rope and ladder system and a stretcher to rescue the man from the culvert and bring him up the steep-sided bank to safety.
