Man dies in Southwater crash

On Wednesday 23 May at about4.45pm there was a collision in Worthing Road, Southwater, just off the A24 Hop Oast roundabout, between a Ford Fiesta travelling west and a Toyota Landcruiser travelling east,
 
Tragically a 44-year old local man who was a passenger in the Fiesta died at the scene. The 25-year old local man driving the Fiesta and a 27-year old local man who was also a passenger in the same car were seriously injured and were airlifted to Kings College Hospital in South London, where both remain in a critical condition.
 
The 44-year old local man driving the Landcruiser received a minor arm injury but did not require hospital treatment.
 
Sergeant Jim Stobart said- "We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any events leading up to it, to contact us the Road Policing Unit via 101 quoting Operation Pelham."

As of mid-morning 24 May the hospital have not notified us of any change in the conditions of the two injured men. We are not yet in a position to release the identity of the dead man.

The man who died when the car in which he was a passenger collided with another car in Southwater on Wednesday 23 May, is named today as Peter Green, 44, of Eversfield, Southwater.
 
The crash happened at about 4.45pm on Wednesday in Worthing Road, Southwater, just off the A24 Hop Oast roundabout, when a Ford Fiesta travelling west, in which Mr Green was a passenger, collided with a Toyota Landcruiser travelling east.
 
The 25-year old local man driving the Fiesta and a 27-year old local man who was also a passenger in the same car were seriously injured and were airlifted to Kings College Hospital in South London, where both remain in a critical but stable condition.

Driver jailed over crash that caused the death of one of his passengers

A man who lost control of his car and caused a crash that killed one of his passengers has been jailed.
Simon Graczyk crashed his Ford Fiesta head on into a Toyota Landcruiser on a sharp bend as he headed towards Southwater in Worthing Road. The 28-year-old, had just come off the A24 Hop Oast roundabout when his Fiesta went onto the wrong side of the road and collided with the Toyota at about 4.45pm on 23 May 2012.
Peter Green, 44, the front seat passenger of the Fiesta, died at the scene. A 27-year-old passenger in the back seat suffered severe head injuries that he may never fully recover from. The 44-year-old man in the Toyota suffered slight injuries.
Graczyk, of Eversfield, Southwater, pleaded not guilty to causing death by careless driving at Lewes Crown Court but was convicted after a trial.
On 14 November 2014 he was sentenced to 22 months in prison and was banned from driving for 18 months.
