Between 25 November and 1 December, homes in Oakfield Avenue, East Wittering, Avebury Close, Bracklesham Bay and Howard Avenue, Ella Close and Chaucer Drive, West Wittering, were either entered by thieves or had doors and windows smashed by people trying to get inside. Among the items taken are a TV and cash and officers are keen to speak to anyone who might have seen people acting suspiciously in the area. The first burglary happened in Oakfield Avenue on 25 November. The latest in the series was in Chaucer Drive on 1 December. Police believe the same people could be involved in all of these as the victims lived relatively close to each other and the crimes happened in a short space of time. Just before 9.30am a member of staff arriving for work at the Bognor Cheque Exchange in the High Street heard noises at the back of the building and found a man climbing in through a window. The staff member thrust a broom at him and the man ran off, accompanied by two others who were outside. All three were wearing black clothing and balaclavas. A test purchase operation carried out by licensing officers from Sussex Police today resulted in four premises selling alcohol to volunteers aged under 18. The premises that failed were Sibel's Mini Market in Hawthorn Road, Bognor Regis, One-Stop in The Parade, Durston Drive, Bognor Regis, The Southdowns in Felpham Way, Bognor Regis, and West's bar in West Street, Chichester. The premises that refused to sell alcohol was One-Stop in Tangmere Road, Tangmere. Sergeant Mike Balmer said- "It is extremely disappointing that four premises have failed to meet their responsibility of not selling alcohol to children. At about 00.30am there was an altercation between two men and two other men in Troys Kebab House, Crawley High Street, during which one of the first two, a 39-year old from Wickford in Essex, sustained a serious injury to his jaw. The victim was treated at East Surrey Hospital and then went to Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead to await surgery on his jaw. The suspects are both described as Asian, aged 20 to 30 and of medium build. One is 5'8" with a bushy beard and was wearing a hat. The other suspect was about 5'6"-5'7". Jamie Bryanton, 27, and Wayne Wennington, 43, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery at Chichester Crown Court and were sentenced today. The court heard that in the early hours of 22 November the victim, a 39-year-old homeless man, went to the underground car park in Chapel Street where the two men were sleeping rough. He asked to join them and an argument escalated with the victim being assaulted and his mobile phone stolen. DC David Midgley said- "The victim suffered some nasty injuries - cuts, bruising and he lost a tooth - but thanks to his quick actions in reporting this, officers were able to make arrests and search and find the stolen phone. Incident: Night fishermen drifting out to sea. Responding to a 999 call, the Coastguard asked a Lifeboat launch to assist two fishermen half a mile South of Eastoke Point. The D-Class Hayling Island RNLI lifeboat was launched and found the two men by the Bar Beacon in a 2.4m inflatable with no engine but a set of oars. They had tried to anchor but had lost the anchor as it was not secured to the boat! They were not making headway back into the harbour using the oars, as they were against the wind and tide. The Hayling Island RNLI Atlantic 85 was on scene in 4 minutes and found a 63 year local windsurfer had been caught out by changing weather. He was well equipped but was not making it back against the wind. The Lifeboat took him on board, wrapped him in blankets and a survival bag and quickly got back to the station. The 66-year old man driving the Suzuki was freed by firefighters and taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries. The collision occurred shortly before 11am near Bournehill Lodge, and resulted in Kerves Lane being closed to traffic between its junctions with the A281 Brighton Road to the north and Hard's Hill/Coldstaple Lane to the south. Land and air ambulance paramedics attended but sadly the cyclist, a local man aged 65, died at the scene. The coroner has been informed. A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. In particular, officers would like to speak to two horseriders believed to have passed the scene shortly before the collision occurred. The six-year-old boy was in a shopping trolley at Morrisons in High Street at 10.45am with his mother when she momentarily turned away from her son. While her back was turned a man approached the boy and slapped him across the face. The man then left the supermarket. He was white, between 20 and 25, stocky and about 6ft. He had a round, spotty face with some stubble and was wearing a green hooded jacket with fluff around the hood and with a woman who was white, thin and 6ft. It happened just before 12.30pm. Sadly 67-year-old Denise Osborne of Old Road, Buckland, Betchworth Surrey, driving the Mini was confirmed dead at the scene. The coroner has been informed. The woman's front seat passenger, a 75-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was flown to St George's Hospital, Tooting, London, by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance. He has been detained for treatment. A 17-year-old youth driving the van suffered minor injuries. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until 11 February. All those involved in the crash were from Surrey. Tomasz Krukowski, 33, formerly of The Croft, Bognor Regis, failed to return on bail to Sussex Police in September 2013. He had been due to be charged with conspiracy to commit burglary across West Sussex at houses in Chichester, Petworth, Bosham, Slindon, Broadbridge Heath and surrounding areas. Police from the Pomeranian Command, Gdansk, subsequently arrested Krukowski in Czarne, Northern Poland, and he was flown back to Britain. The BMW was travelling east to west on High Beeches Lane heading towards Handcross village when it came off the road. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Lindfield, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. Kyle Witney, 20, of Finches Lane, Lindfield has been charged with two counts of driving dangerously causing the deaths of Marc Martin and Matthew Preece and being unfit through taking drugs. The two passengers sadly died when the car they were travelling in left the road and hit a tree at Handcross on 17 December last year. Matthew Preece, 21, from Lindfield, and Marc Martin, 22, from Haywards Heath both died in hospital from their injuries. He has been named as Ben Finch, 42, from Lancing. Mr Finch was driving a black BMW east on Selhurstpark Road, when it left the road and collided with a tree at about 3.30pm. The car caught fire and sadly Mr Finch died within the car. DNA tests have now confirmed his identity. His family has been informed. Police are continuing to investigate the crash and have appealed again for any witnesses to come forward. In particular, officers would like to hear from the driver of a dark coloured Land Rover Defender 110 that is believed to have been nearby at the time. A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were sadly found dead in the property. Officers are working to establish the circumstances of the death but are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. UPDATE SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR47842 / 2014 Couple who died in Billingshurst tragedy are named Police are continuing to investigate the deaths of a man and a woman at a house in Groomsland Drive, Billingshurst. Their bodies were discovered on Christmas Day. A post mortem examination has confirmed that the man, Jan Tshabalala, 33, died from hanging. The cause of death of his wife, Julia, 30, is still being investigated. The couple's two children, aged 4 and 6, who were not believed to have been at home at the time of the incident, are currently being cared for by relatives. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rymarz, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic case and our thoughts are very much with the family at this time. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths but would welcome information from anyone who may have had contact with either person in the days before their deaths which may help to shed light on this case." The crew found the man ¾ mile off the pier but he refused assistance. They spent 15 minutes persuading him into the lifeboat by which time he was extremely cold and distressed. It involved a white Nissan Primastar van and a red Honda CBF600 motorcycle. The van driver, a 46-year-old man from Ringmer, suffered minor injuries, but the motorcyclist, a 59-year-old man, also from Ringmer, sustained serious injuries, including a broken pelvis. Two teenage girls who were passengers in the van were unhurt. The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attended but casualties were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, by land ambulance. The A26 was closed between Earwig Corner, Lewes, and Little Horsted roundabout, near Uckfield, until 11.50pm.
