Location: Lewes Incident: Collision on A27 A van has been in collision with three cars on the A27, Lewes this morning. Police and ambulance were called to the scene near the Ashcombe roundabout at around 7.50am. There does not appear to be any serious injury but the road is partially blocked eastbound and causing substantial tailbacks. Drivers are advised to use an alternative route if possible. The collision happened at 2.30pm between a blue Peugeot 106 and a Ford transit van. The 55-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries. The other driver, a 42-year-old man was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries. The road was closed for five hours while emergency services dealt with the incident. The crash happened at 8pm as the motorcyclist was travelling east along Linden Road in Bognor. His Honda CBR bike hit a parked Vauxhall Corsa and the pavement and he was thrown from the vehicle. The motorcycle then skidded down the road and hit a parked Suzuki van. The rider, from Bognor, was taken to Southampton General Hospital suffering from broken arms and legs and internal injuries. Anyone with information about the crash should call 101 quoting serial 1634 of 2 August or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk POLICE report - Ref: PR43074 / 2013 Time: 8pm Location: Fish Lane, Bognor Incident: Man on test drive crashes car in Bognor and runs off Police are appealing for witnesses after a man smashed a car into a wall during a test drive and fled. The driver crashed the silver BMW into a wall in Fish Lane, Bognor, at about 8pm on Friday 2 August. A white man aged about 25 with spikey hair was then seen limping away from the wreckage. The man, who was skinny and wearing a light top and dark shorts, was carrying his shoes in his hands as he fled. The wreckage of the BMW blocked the road. It is believed that the suspect had just taken the car out for a test drive from its owner. He has been named as Donald Spooner of Brookway, Lancing. Mr Spooner was riding an electrically powered pedal cycle at the time of the collision. He was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital with a critical head injury, but sadly died later.

The road was closed in both directions and drivers have been advised to avoid the area for the time being if possible. The men driving the vans, aged 60 and 48, were taken by road ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious leg and body injuries. The passenger in the van driven by the 60-year old, a 19-year old man, was taken by air ambulance to Kings College Hospital in South London with serious leg and arm injuries. None of the injuries are assessed as life threatening at this time. The road between Burgess Hill and Hassocks will remain closed until later this morning whilst police examine the vans and the scene, and while the highway authority clear the road and ensure it is safe to be opened. This could be part of a delivery destined for the 3 Store in Bognor Regis that was stolen from a courier van nearby. The white Vauxhall Mervano was parked in West Street in the town when it was broken into between 10am and midday. A parcel containing £25,000 of mobile phones that was in the back of the vehicle was stolen. Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the West Street area on Tuesday morning and could have seen someone acting suspiciously around the van or other vehicles. Police state that they have been given a list of all the stolen handsets and their IMEI codes so any phones they recover will be able to be traced back to the theft easily. Anyone who buys one of these stolen phones should bear in mind that the handsets will be confiscated and they will not get their money back. Location: B2145 Sidlesham Junction Incident: Road traffic collision in Sidlesham Police were called to a collision involving a white Ford Transit van and a gold Toyota Yaris in Sidlesham. A 59-year-old man from Selsey who was driving the van and a 58-year-old Littlehampton woman who was driving the Yaris, were both taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries. A Renault Megane was travelling south along the B2036 at 6.32pm when it left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The 36-year-old male driver suffered serious leg and arm injuries and had to be cut free from the vehicle by the Fire and Rescue Service. Paramedics also treated a 29-year-old woman with a serious leg injury and a 32-year-old woman with minor injuries. All three, who are from Haywards Heath, were taken to hospital. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision to contact them on 101, quoting reference 1266 of 8/8. The 61-year old, from Hove, riding a red Yamaha motorcycle, was in collision with a silver Peugeot 307 driven by a 34-year old Bexhill woman, just south of Hickstead. Emergency services were called to the scene and an air ambulance landed on the southbound carriageway. The northbound carriageway remained open, but the southbound was closed for three and half hours whilst the victim was attended to, and the scene was investigated and cleared. Alexis Scott, of High Grove, London, will appear at Canterbury Magistrates Court on 2 September. The charges relate to allegations that she stole £15,000 from passengers at Gatwick Airport in April. She was a Sussex Police PCSO based at Gatwick at the time. She was arrested and questioned over the allegations in May. Scott was suspended when the investigation began but was dismissed for gross misconduct after a disciplinary hearing. She faces seven counts of theft and one count of misconduct in a public office.
