ref- PR43115 /2013
Police have put up a £500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted for questioning in connection with a series of burglaries in Hove.
Gregory Hawley, 20, of Poynings Drive, Hove, is wanted over break-ins at homes across Hove and Portslade in the early hours of the morning since October last year.
The victims have lost thousands of pounds worth of items in the raids, including laptops, mobile phones and iPods.
The offences are being linked as part of Operation Magpie, the force's crackdown on burglars in Sussex.
The first burglary in the series happened in the early hours of 11 October last year when a thief snuck into a home in Woodland Drive while the owner was asleep upstairs.
The thief took phone, computer equipment and cash.
A 45-year-old woman was the next victim when her home in Bush Cottage Close, Portslade, was burgled by a thief who escaped with her handbag, mobile phone and laptop after getting in through an insecure door overnight on 21 March.
Late on 30 March or early on 31 March a thief got into a house in Hill Brow, Hove, while the male resident was asleep and stole two mobile phones, three iPads, a laptop, passports and sunglasses.
In the early hours of 21 April a burglar entered a home in Woodland Avenue, Hove, and took a handbag, an iPod, two mobile phones, a camera and a laptop.
Nine days later a home in Northease Drive, Hove, was broken into by a thief who escaped with two mobile phones.
A laptop and a cash card were stolen from a house in Ashlings Way, Hove, late on 2 May while a break-in at a home in Mill Close on the morning of 5 May led to a thief leaving with a computer, a tablet, bank cards, a handbag, a purse and wallet, cash and three mobile phones.
Late on 12 May or early on 13 May the home of a 45-year-old mother and her three children in Woodruff Avenue, Hove, was entered by a burglar who took two laptops, a PSP Vita games console and a purse containing bank cards and cash while they were asleep.
Overnight from 27 May to 28 May a thief broke into a house in Goldstone Crescent, Hove, and escaped with an iPod, a mobile phone, a handbag, two purses, bank cards, reading glasses and cash.
The victims of the 11 October burglary in Woodland Drive were targeted again on 18 June. This time the thief took a laptop, headphones, a digital camera, a rucksack, a bible and cash.
When a thief broke into a home in Chartfield, Hove, later on 25 June or early on 26 June a laptop, an iPod, an iPhone, a handbag and a purse as well as cash, passports and a watch were taken.
An iPod was also taken from a grey BMW 330 parked in Mill Drive, Hove, between 25 May and 30 May.
PC Alex Chaszcewski said: "We urgently need to speak to Gregory Hawley about this long list of crimes.
We would urge anyone who knows where he is or anything about these offences to contact us.
Each of these offences was a creeper burglary, where the offenders find a way into the property while the residents are asleep and take what they can.
Some of the victims of these burglaries have been waiting months for the person responsible for targeting their homes to be caught and we want to give them justice."
Anyone with information should call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. If you see Gregory Hawley please dial 999 immediately.
