SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51184 / 2016 Report received: Time: 3.40pm Location: A23 southbound at Handcross Hill Incident: Car fire closes two lanes of road Emergency services are attending an incident on the A23 southbound at Handcross Hill, 300 yards from the B2115 Warninglid junction, where a car has caught fire. First reports were received at around 3.40pm when the fire led to lanes one and two of the three-lane section being closed to vehicles. Within the hour just one lane was sealed off to traffic. However, traffic queues have built up and drivers are advised to avoid the A23 southbound until the incident has been cleared. This will include inspection of the road surface by highways engineers for any heat damage. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51197 / 2016 Death of Bognor man not suspicious Ivars Rubenis, 46, who lived at Belmont Street, Bognor Regis, was found unconscious with a serious head injury in Marine Drive West, Bognor Regis on 30 January. He was taken to hospital in Southampton but sadly died on 31 January. A postmortem at Worthing Hospital today, Monday 1 February, has confirmed that death resulted from the head injury. Police enquiries have now concluded and the death is not being treated as suspicious. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51192 / 2016 Report received: 3 February 2016 FOUND - John Robinson Missing John Robinson has been found safe and well. Police would like to thank the public and the media for their help. Redon Sadria, 19, and Ardi Murataj, 20, the victim of the kidnap, had admitted possession with intent to supply class A drugs. On Thursday 28 January, Ilir Hasa was jailed for eight years for kidnap. Saimir Nezaj was sentenced to eight years for kidnap, 18 months consecutively for threatening a witness, two years for possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and 18 months concurrently for a fraudulent documents offence - a total of 11-and-a-half years. Gazmend Mula got six-and-a-half years for kidnap and three-and-a-half years for possession with intent to supply class A drugs- a total of 10 years. All five defendants will be deported at the end of their sentences The judge also agreed all orders for forfeiture of and destruction of £16,500 cash, drugs and computers seized by police. On Friday 29 January, Ardi Murataj - also known as Tony Kurt - and Redon Sandria were each jailed for two-and-a-half years for their involvment in the supply of drugs. The court heard that just before 6pm on Sunday 12 April 2015 a 19-year-old man was attacked by four men and then bundled into a Vauxhall Astra in Princes Terrace, Brighton. The Vauxhall involved in the kidnapping belonged to Albanian man Hasa. Police enquiries led to Hasa and another Albanian man Mula who were arrested two days later and charged. Two other men were charged with drug offences and in September, Nezaj was also charged with conspiracy to kidnap. Bransanth Ravi, 31, a care assistant, of Meadow Road, Hailsham, has been charged with driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop for police, driving other than in accordance with his licence and having no insurance. He has been bailed to appear before magistrates on Wednesday, 17 February. SEE ABOVE FIRE & RESCUE report PR 10905 Time: 8:35am Location: Maybush Drive, Chidham Incident: FIRE FATAL Fire crews from Chichester, Emsworth and Havant were mobilised to several reports of a bungalow alight in Maybush Drive, Chidham at 8:35am today. On arrival at 8:44 the Chichester crew found a severe fire at the rear of the bungalow and requested additional appliances 'make pumps four'. Two casualties were located by search crews wearing breathing apparatus. Sadly both were confirmed deceased at the scene. A fire investigation is now underway to try and establish the cause. Thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the casualties and everyone involved in this tragedy. SEE ABOVE SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51224 / 2016 Police investigating fatal fire Police are investigating after a fire at a property in Chidham near Chichester where two people have died. Emergency services were called to Maybush Drive at 8.35am to a bungalow on fire. Two people, believed to be the occupants of the house both in their 90s, have sadly died. An investigation is underway to establish how the fire started which at this stage is unexplained. The post mortem for the couple, who have not been formally identified, took place yesterday and revealed they both died from neck and head injuries. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the property at 8.35am to reports of the bungalow alight. Sadly a man and woman, now understood to be in their 70s, were found in the property and were declared dead at the scene. Detective Chief Inspector Tanya Jones from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: "We are treating this as a murder investigation and are following several lines of enquiry. It appears the couple were attacked before their home was set alight. We are supporting the family of the couple and are working with colleagues from the fire service along with forensic and crime scene investigators to establish the circumstances. We are waiting to talk to a man who is being treated in hospital for severe burns and we believe this may be connected. He had attended an address in Rotherfield on Saturday lunchtime from where he was transferred to hospital. The information we have so far has led us to treat this man, who was known to the couple, as a potential suspect in our investigation. He has not been arrested as he remains critically ill in hospital. This is a tragic incident and we are appealing to anyone in the area who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in Maybush Drive between 9am on Friday and 8.35am when the fire started on Saturday morning." Just before 8am on Sunday 7 February a red Vauxhall Corsa being driven by a 48-year old Crawley woman, south in Bonnetts Lane, Ifield, left the road and collided with a fence and a tree. She was released from the car by firefighters and paramedics and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she is being treated for chest injuries, Her condition is currently described as serious but stable. If you saw what happened please call Police on 101, quoting Operation Assembly or email sussex.pnn.police.uk SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51230 / 2016 Time: 11am Location: service station, eastbound A27 Incident: Investigation into incident at A27 Lewes service station Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a collision which occurred at 11am at a service station on the eastbound A27 between Falmer and Lewes. Minor damage was caused to a blue Toyota Aygo and a silver Renault Kangoo with French registration plates, when the Renault collided with rear of the Toyota, which was stationary. The occupants of the Renault were a man and a woman, both aged 74. The woman passenger was sadly found to be dead, and the man who was driving the car was unwell and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton in a serious condition. Neither had sustained any physical injury in the collision. Her death is being treated as unexplained. The police and Brighton and Hove City Council have become aware of a website that is promoting an event called 'The Eastwood Festival'. This is advertised as a Russian rock, two day event located in the Ovingdean area. At this time, neither Sussex Police nor Brighton and Hove City Council have been approached in relation to the safety and licensing of such an event nor have our attempts to contact the organisers been successful. Those thinking of attending this event and purchasing tickets should consider this position prior to purchasing tickets, until the validity of the event can be confirmed and relevant licences have been granted. The event is being advertised at a cost of £200 for attending the two day event and the police and council are currently unable to confirm that this event will be either safe to attend or indeed will go ahead as the appropriate licenses have not been authorised. Chief Inspector Chris Veale of Sussex Police said: "Until we are able to ascertain the validity of both this website and the event we would ask residents who are thinking of attending to exercise caution and take our advice into account before providing your bank details for payment. We will continue to attempt to make contact with event organisers and land owners and will provide more information as and when it comes to light." A pedestrian - a woman in her 70s - was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop in South Road at about 6.40am. The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was called to assist and the woman is being treated for serious injuries. The road has been closed by police for forensics analysis to take place. A blue Ford car is suspected to have been involved in the incident. Officers are appealing for anyone with any information about the blue car, which may have been abandoned, to come forward. From debris found at the collision site, Police are looking for a Ford Fiesta or Ford B-max in Candy Blue, manufactured from 2012 onwards. The vehicle has damaged a wing mirror in the collision. Anyone who saw the collision, or who witnessed a blue Ford in the area immediately before or after the incident, is asked to call 101, quoting Operation Image or email sussex.pnn.police.uk SEE ABOVE SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51268 / 2016 Report received: 10 February 2016 17:28 Woman arrested over Hailsham hit and run collision On Wednesday afternoon, 10 February, police arrested a woman over a hit and run collision in Hailsham on Tuesday 9 February. A car has also been recovered. A 78-year old Hailsham woman pedestrian sustained serious injuries following the incident, which occurred at about 6.40am on Tuesday in South Road. She is still in a critical but stable condition in the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The woman arrested, who is 35 and also from Hailsham, is in custody for interview on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. SEE ABOVE SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51474 / 2016 Hailsham hit and run - now fatal A woman pedestrian who was seriously injured following a hit and run collision in South Street, Hailsham, on 9 February has died in hospital. Patricia Gregory, 79, from Cacklebury Close, Hailsham, died on Wednesday 2 March in the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. A 35-year-old Hailsham woman was arrested the day after the collision on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. She has been bailed until 10 April.
Dog, van and owner reunited Indie, the German Shepherd dog, who was taken along with her owner's van from Brighton on Tuesday 9 February has been found. The red Fiat Doblo van was reported to be in York Place by an anonymous caller to police overnight and a relieved owner was re-united with Indie, apparently none the worse for her experience, around 1am. Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the van between the time it was stolen around 10.15am in Cumberland Road and when it was found.

A 24-year-old woman, the driver of the car, has been airlifted to hospital in Southampton with serious, potentially life-changing injuries. Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.14am. There were passengers on the coach, including children, but there are no reports of injuries to anyone else. The road is closed to eastbound traffic and is likely to remain so until around 1pm. However, westbound traffic is now able to pass the scene. Shannon Onslow, 33, who was last seen on Saturday 6 February, has been found safe and well in Brighton. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51245 / 2016 Report received: 11 February 2016 Murder investigation launched into disappearance of Karl Bunster Police investigating the disappearance of Hastings man Karl Bunster have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. A 48-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested in Exeter, Devon, on Wednesday 10 February and are currently in custody. They will be brought to Sussex for questioning. The last confirmed sighting of Karl, was in Mann Street, Hastings, on 17 December 2015. Police have been trying to find 37-year-old Karl since and have made enquiries in Kent, Devon and Scotland. Detectives from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team have now launched a murder investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Jason Taylor said: "We would like to hear from anyone who has any information that can help this investigation. Karl's family and friends are extremely concerned and fear he has come to harm." Fatima, 52, went missing from her home in Park Drive Close on Friday 12 February leaving her handbag and other personal items behind. The initial appeal resulted in a sighting of her being reported in Avis Road around 8am on Friday, but she has not been seen since. The caller reported that she was wearing a beige coat and her family has confirmed that a coat of this description is missing from their home. Fatima has now been missing for three days and the circumstances of her disappearance are causing Police & family considerable concern. She has never gone missing before and left home without a bag or any personal items. During the early hours of Saturday morning, volunteers from Sussex Search and Rescue and Lowland Search Dogs worked in and around the town and up the River Ouse to Southease. Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw, 27, of Lakeside, Beckenham, Kent, had denied murdering the 21-year-old University of Brighton student from Germany who was studying at the Eastbourne campus. A jury found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter following a trial at Guildford Crown Court on Monday 22 February 2016. Janet had been a patient at Millview Hospital, a mental health unit in Hove, since 3 March, but had absconded twice on 12 March, the last time around 10pm that evening. On the afternoon of 13 March 2015, a Volkswagen Jetta was set on fire in a country lane off Rusper Road, Ifield, near Crawley and the body of Janet was found in the boot. She had been beaten and died in the fire. Jeffrey-Shaw had fled to a nearby hotel, called a taxi and returned to London. A few days later he handed himself into a police station in London after detectives issued his photo and an appeal for him to contact police. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and charged. Jeffrey-Shaw will be sentenced on Friday 26 Feb.. The owners returned home to hear their smoke detector activating and smoke coming from the first floor of their property. The couple, in their 70s, sensibly left the property and called 999. On arrival, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire using hose reels preventing it from spreading to the rest of the house. The fire is believed to have started when reflected sunlight from a dressing table mirror ignited a candle on the bedroom windowsill which subsequently caught the curtains alight. It was reported that sometime between 1.30am and 3am the suspect punched the victim and raped her. She managed to run off but was followed by the man to Springfield Road where he sexually assaulted her. He is described as white, in his early 20s and of skinny build with short brown hair. The other man, who was seen with them briefly, is white, smaller and stockier with dark facial hair. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51408 / 2016 Police launch murder investigation in Mayfield - two arrested Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead at his home in Coggins Mill Lane, Mayfield. A 17-year-old boy from Crowborough was arrested on suspicion of murder today and is currently in custody. He is believed to be known to the victim. A 17-year-old girl from Eastbourne has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and is also in custody. Police went to the address in Mayfield at 6.15pm on Thursday 25 February after a call from an employer expressing concern for the welfare of a member of their staff who lived there. They found a man, the 52-year-old sole occupant, dead at the house. His identity has not been released as police are trying to locate his next of kin. A post mortem revealed the man had died from multiple injuries. His identity has not been released as police are trying to locate his next of kin. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51461 / 2016 Report received: 7 March 2016 Time: 10.45am Location: behind Madeira Parade shops Incident: Appeal to man who helped a woman after she was assaulted in Bognor Police are appealing to a man who helped a woman who had been assaulted in Bognor Regis. The victim, a 20-year-old woman from Bognor, was attacked behind Madeira Parade shops and flats between 10.45am and 11.10am. She was left with bruising to her face. A man stopped to help her, the police are especially eager to trace him. A 26-year-old man from Bognor, was arrested on suspicion of ABH. He was questioned and bailed until 23 March. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51419 / 2016 Time: 10pm Location: Rowlands Road, West Worthing Incident: Man assaulted in West Worthing Police are seeking witnesses and further information concerning an incident in Rowlands Road, West Worthing, in which a 24-year-old local man was assaulted. At 10pm the victim went into the Co-Op store in Rowlands Road and reported that he had had been attacked by several people at an address in the same road. He was taken to Worthing Hospital and discharged early the following morning after treatment for cuts and bruising. An address in Rowlands Road and an address in Marine Parade were searched during a subsequent investigation. Police have arrested three men, aged 36, 44 and 19, and two women, aged 41 and 34, on suspicion of false imprisonment and assault. All are currently still in custody for interview and further enquiries. Alexandra Capone, 41 and David Ryan, 44, both of Marine Parade, Worthing, and Alfie Drew, of The Finches, Shoreham, are also charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. Capone is also facing a charge of robbery. They were due to appear at Crawley Magistrates Court on Tuesday 1 March. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR51433 / 2016 Time: 7.10pm Location: A2220 Haslett Avenue, Crawley Incident: Crawley collision Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the A2220 Haslett Avenue, Crawley just after 7.10pm. A Honda FRV travelling westbound collided with another Honda vehicle travelling east by the Hazelwick Road junction. The driver of the Honda FRV, a 39-year-old Crawley woman and her 20-year-old passenger, a Crawley man, both suffered whiplash injuries. A woman aged 45 also from Crawley who was driving the other Honda suffered a fractured arm, bruising and cuts. She was taken to the East Surrey Hospital for treatment.
