A 30-year-old man from Bognor Regis was seriously injured when he came off his kawasaki motorbike at the roundabout between Bognor Road, Crookthorn Lane and Church Lane at 12.35am. There were no other vehicles involved. He was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but not life threatening injuries. The fire service was called to Chapel Road at about 3am following a report of a blaze behind Scope. As a result of the flames, damage was caused to the back door of the charity shop. Electric cables, guttering and lights were also melted at neighbouring premises. Scope was unable to open its shop today as a result of the fire, causing a loss to charity funds. Police received a call at 12.40pm today from workers excavating the river who had discovered what they believed to be an old ordnance [unexploded bomb]. The footbridge and Coronation Green has been closed while assessment from bomb disposal team is carried out. A Sussex Police spokesperson said: "We are working to minimise the disruption to users of the footbridge while also ensuring that the public remain safe. We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience while the assessment is being carried out." UPDATE- Shoreham footbridge has now reopened Time: 3.15pm Shoreham footbridge has now reopened after suspected unexploded ordnance was discovered in the River Adur by workers excavating the area. The item, which turned out to be a gas cannister, has been removed. Police spokesperson said: "The footbridge was closed for the safety of the public while the item was assessed. "We understand that this caused some inconvenience to users of the footbridge and thank them for their understanding and patience during this time." Police report Ref: PR40306/2012 Time: 7.50pm Location: Chichester Incident: Travellers moved on to allow for festival in Chichester Police, working with the local authority, have this evening acted to remove travellers from playing fields at Oaklands Park, Chichester. They have used their powers under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to remove the travellers to prevent disruption to the planned Get Active festival taking place on the site tomorrow. Sgt Alan Fenn said: "The travellers had moved on to the site this morning after being evicted from parish council land in Fishbourne. After speaking to them this afternoon, they agreed to move on again and this was reinforced by the use of the Section 61 power to ensure the festival could be held on the playing fields tomorrow. The rider of the motorbike who died has been identified as Nigel Moore, 58, from Fleet, Hampshire. The collision happened at 2.15pm between a motorcycle and a Lexus, a Vauxhall and a Suzuki. Sadly the rider of the motorbike was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the other drivers were injured. At around 2.30pm a 41-year-old motorcyclist from Crawley left the road on his silver Suzuki GS 500 on a right hand bend while travelling north towards Partridge Green. He sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. He was flown to Royal Sussex County Hospital where he remains. Police and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were called to the address to smoke bellowing from the first floor window at 11.55pm. A rear bedroom within a bed-sit flat suffered extensive fire damage. The block of flats, containing other residents, was evacuated. Fire investigators and police scenes of crime officers have been examining the scene of the fire, which they are treating as suspicious. At about 11.30pm the 25-year old local woman was walking north along Lewes Road aside of The Level, alongside the cycle path, on her way home from work, when a man approached her from behind and tried to snatch her shoulder bag. He pushed her to the ground and she called out for help, attracting the attention of passers by. The man ran off empty-handed, towards Elm Grove. The suspect is described as white, in his early to mid twenties, about 5'6", with a pale complexion, and of average build, clean shaven and with a northern accent. Several personal possessions belonging to Stephen Jones were recovered from the beach off Western Esplanade in Southend at lunchtime on Friday, 30 August . The 52-year-old led a nomadic life, visiting various hostels around the south-east of England, and was last known to be living in south London. A multi-agency missing person investigation was launched by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Essex Police. Enquiries have revealed that the man's cash card has been used at post office ATMs in Brighton on three separate days earlier this month (September). An Essex Police spokesman said: "At this stage, we're not sure whether Stephen entered the sea or whether he has left Essex to continue with his life. We're asking anyone who may have seen him to contact us so that we can provide his family with some substantial update." The road was closed in both directions after the accident. Due to initial fears of a back injury, the officer, based at the Central Road Policing Unit at Haywards Heath, had to be cut free from the car and placed on a back board. A red Alfa Romeo was in collision with the trailer of a tractor being towed in the opposite direction. The tractor was carrying bales of straw which fell onto the car. Sadly, the 70-year-old man from Portsmouth, who was the only occupant of the car, has died following the collision. The driver of the tractor, a 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by careless or dangerous driving. The road is still closed and will remain so for several hours while officers investigate. Two other cars were involved but no-one else was injured. The road was closed after a fatal collision at around 7.10am where bales of straw from a tractor trailer fell onto an oncoming vehicle. The road was closed for a considerable time as the emergency services extracted the the driver from his vehicle, and specialist recovery equipment was required for the tractor, the damaged trailer and its load of straw bales. A 25-year-old man from Selsey was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has since been released on police bail until 9 January, 2013.
