At 9am emergency services were called to Whyke Road, Chichester, after a skip lorry and a woman pedestrian had been in collision. The 37-year old local woman was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where she is in a stable condition with serious but not life threatening leg injuries.
The woman's two daughters, aged three and five, had been with her at the time on their scooters, as she was taking the five-year old to the nearby primary school. One of the girls received slight grazing but neither needed hospital treatment.

Police report ref- PR38373-2012
A Shoreham family had to be rescued from the bottom of Devil's Dyke, Mid Sussex, following an afternoon of sledging today. A multi agency operation was put into action, which included police, West Fire and Rescue, Coastguard and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, following reports that a family were stuck at the bottom of the dyke and due to ice and an injury to one of the children's legs, they were unable to get up the steep slope.
At around 5.30pm a member of the public heard the cries for help and alerted the police. However, due to the icy conditions the police had to call upon partner agencies like West Fire and Rescue to assist. At around 8.30pm an 11-year-old boy was airlifted by the Coastguard helicopter and taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth for treament to an injured leg. He has since been discharged. His father, twin brother and their 10-year-old friend did not require hospital treatment. Inspector Tomlinson, Mid-Sussex Neighbourhood Police Team said- "I am pleased the family are all well following their ordeal. What was a pleasureable afternoon quickly turned into a frightening experience due to the weather, a drop in temperature and the onset of darkness. The rescue would not have been possible without the expertise of our partner agencies, for which, both Sussex Police and the family are very grateful."

Police Report Ref: PR38384-2012
Time: 12.35pm
Location: A27 between Falmer and Hollingbury
Incident: Emergency services were called after a light goods lorry and an MG convertible car had collided on the westbound carriageway. The collision forced the lorry into the central reservation and debris was scattered across the eastbound carriageway, striking an eastbound Ford Mondeo saloon and causing it slight damage. The driver of the lorry, who comes from Swindon, and the woman driving the MG and her passenger, were all taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with back and wrist injuries which were not initially assessed as serious. The Mondeo driver was not hurt. Another westbound car which was following the two vehicles which had collided in that carriageway, also collided with the reservation but the driver was unhurt.
The outer lanes of both carriageways remain closed while the Highway Agency carry out road repairs, and it is understood that traffic delays will continue into the rush hour. A Sussex Police spokesman said- "Emergency services worked together to ensure the casualties were treated and taken to safety, and the scene was examined for causes of the collision. All services appreciate that there have been substantial delays on the A27, and are grateful for the understanding of drivers. The scene was left with the Highways Agency by mid-afternoon."
Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting serial 0586 of 13-2.

Police report
Police linking arson in Furnace Green
Police are investigating a fire in and around communal recycling bins at a Crawley block of flats as arson. At about 4pm West Sussex Fire & Rescue and Sussex Police responded to a report of a fire in Warnham Road, Furnace Green. The fire was close to an external gas pipe that services the flats and also a communal entrance. Around seven residents were safely evacuated and went to family and friends, neighbours or waited in the street for a few hours as the fire was brought under control and the area was made safe. A co-ordinated response saw representatives from the borough council, fire, police and gas company. Detective Sergeant Jon Pink said- "This fire is being treated as suspicious and is being linked to an ongoing series of offences across Furnace Green and Tilgate. An active investigation is underway into other offences when, on 18 December 2011, a total of five cars and a converted garage were set alight and on 23 January 2012 at Hawkhurst Walk, when a similar bin fire occurred outside a block of flats. High visibility patrols are being made as reassurance and residents are being urged to talk to officers if they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area. I would urge anyone who has any information as to who is involved in this reckless and dangerous crime to please contact us on 101 and quote Operation Holder or confidentially via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
