Thieves broke in on 29 December and stole all the equipment and electrical goods to run the club. This has had an enormous impact on the staff and members.. It is believed that the same suspects returned to try to break in again, between Monday evening, 9 February, and Wednesday morning 11 February, but fortunately they were unable to get in on this occasion. The burglary came soon after the cadets had achieved an outstanding award from the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex for raising £3000 for charity. Dave Merrett, Sergeant Instructor at the site, says it is not the staff that lose out from these thieves, but it directly affects the young Army Cadets who look forward to the activities that they do each week. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR48412 / 2015 Van driver blocks ambulance A Littlehampton man has written an apology after obstructing an ambulance on an emergency call in Brighton. Around 10.30am the ambulance was on a emergency call to reports of a baby having a fit and trying to get through traffic on Buckingham Road. A Mercedes Sprinter van was double parked and blocking the way, stopping the ambulance from passing. The ambulance was sounding its sirens and then sounded its horn several times to the alert the van to its need to get through. The driver refused to move and told the ambulance to go round another way. After trying to reason with the driver, he eventually slowly moved his van while swearing at the ambulance crew. He was identified by the registration details from the van and he was contacted. The ambulance crew member asked for the issue to be dealt with by community resolution and the driver to donate £100 to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. The 37-year-old man admitted the offence and wrote a letter apologising for his behaviour. Inspector Brian McCarthy said: "This man's behaviour was totally unacceptable and he has admitted it. It's very satisfying to be able to resolve this case in this way which suited everyone involved." SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR48319 / 2015 Further remains in forest believed those of missing Crawley man A police-led search in Tilgate Forest, Pease Pottage, has found further human remains believed to be those of missing 42-year old Jean Leveque from Crawley. The further search, carried out today found the remains, consisting of a skull, torso, arms and right leg, together with some scraps of clothing, at 2pm at a point deeper in the forest from where the first two bones, both from a left leg, were found last month. Police were assisted by volunteers from Sussex Search and Rescue and Neighbourhood Watches. Searches of the area have been continuing on a regular basis since the first two bones were found but no more are now planned as it is evident that the whole body has now been recovered. Although DNA analysis has still to take place to formally confirm the identity, and this may take some days, it is believed that they are from Jean, and his next of kin have been told of the further sad news. Police were informed on Wednesday, 28 January, that the first two bones had been found near a pond in Parish Lane, Pease Pottage. A member of the public who was fishing found them on Monday, 26 January. The two bones were identified as Jean's as a result of analysis by a forensic archaeologist and by DNA comparison. The area around the lake was searched to see if there were any more bones but none were found at that stage. The death continues to be treated as unexplained rather than suspicious, and the Coroner has been informed. Extensive police enquiries had been carried out to try to find Jean, of Hawth Close, Crawley, including media appeals to which his sister contributed, after he was reported missing in May last year. SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR48353 / 2015 FOUND Kylie Stoddart Kylie Stoddart, 56, who was last seen in Chichester at 3pm on 12 February, was found safe in Bognor on Monday evening, 23 February. Kylie had been subject of a police publicity appeal on 19 February. Time: 2.15pm Weather: Quite rough with a F5 WSW wind. Incident: Fishing boat is swamped by waves The commercial fishing boat 'Horizon' had finished fishing and was running downwind at the W end of Hayling Bay. Based in Portsmouth the skipper turned into the wind and waves to make for his home port. A big rogue wave caught the vessel and broke over the bow filling a large holding tank situated on the forward deck. This caused the boat to be bow down and so more waves started to break over the deck causing the skipper to turn back so she went downwind and with the waves. The boat was still bow heavy however and waves came in over the starboard side where there was little freeboard and water began to get below into the hull. A MAYDAY call was made for assistance and both Portsmouth and Hayling Inshore Lifeboats were launched, and the S&R Helicopter was paged. The lifeboats reached the casualty at the same time and both put crewmembers on board with salvage pumps. Once the pumps were running the boat became more manageable and was able to proceed into Chichester Harbour escorted by the lifeboats. The helicopter, now not needed returned to base. 'Horizon' was taken into Sparkes Marina where the pumping out was completed and the lifeboats returned to their stations. full report SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR48402 / 2015 Man found guilty of defrauding charity Report received- 27 February 2015 A man has been sentenced after de-frauding the charity where he worked. He pleaded guilty today at Chichester Crown Court and was sentenced immediately to 12 months, suspended for two years and ordered to pay RAFA £2,400 compensation. Detective constable Beccy Hopkins said: "The RAF Association is a charity which provides vital support to ex-servicemen and women and relies upon the generosity and integrity of its members. Legislation that comes into force on 2 March sets legal limits for how much of a substance - both illegal drugs and prescription medication - motorists can have in their system while driving. A new device has also been approved that will allow officers at the roadside to test if a motorist has taken cannabis or cocaine. The DrugWipe system allows officers to determine in minutes whether motorists have the illegal substances in their body, using a swab from inside a driver's cheek. Officers no longer need to prove that a motorist is fit to drive - just that the motorist has an illegal level of drugs in their system while driving. Any drivers who fail the tests will be arrested and taken to a police station where they will be asked to consent to a sample of their blood being taken. That blood will then be sent away to be examined and if illegal levels of a drug are found, the motorist faces being prosecuted for drug-driving. If the driver refuses to give consent, they face being prosecuted for the offence of failing to provide a sample of blood for analysis. The change in the law is designed to make it quicker and easier for drug-drivers to be prosecuted - meaning more of the dangerous motorists can be removed from the streets. Drugs covered by the new rules include cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and ketamine. Medicinal drugs covered include diazepam, methadone and morphine. The limits for these drugs have been set after advice from a panel of medical experts, at the level where the substances begin to affect driving. National statistics suggest one in six drivers who die in crashes in the UK have traces of illegal drugs in their systems - with many of them having taken both drink and drugs. These changes to the law will give the police the enforcement tools they need to protect road users from dangerous drivers and pursue those who have committed serious crimes. Crucially, this will improve the safety of everyone by taking drug drivers off our roads. re: Sean Thompson, of Holmbush Way, Midhurst, 26, was arrested after he crashed his Ford Focus into a van in Petersfield Road, Midhurst, at 7.45am on 11 July 2014.
