RELEASED ON BEHALF OF NOTTS POLICE
Have you seen Arturs Anisimovs?
The 24-year-old, who moved from Latvia to Mansfield last year, was last seen at the end of July this year. He was wearing a red baseball cap with an 'A' on the front, a yellow shirt with blue detail, blue corduroy type trousers, a beige hip-length coat and canvas shoes. 'Since his move, Arturs has kept regular contact with his family via the Internet. The fact that he has not been in touch with them since 11 August is of great concern. Arturs, who speaks fluent English as well as a number of other languages, is a regular train user and had shown interest in seeing more of the country, and specifically Edinburgh, Grimsby, Middlesbrough, Leicester and Lincoln. But he has not accessed his bank account since mid-August and activity on his phone has also stopped.
Detective Inspector Caroline Racher said: "Arturs moved out here on his own and so he and his family have relied on the Internet for keeping in touch. When contact came to an abrupt halt and he didn't speak to them on his birthday, they reported their concerns to us. We share their concerns.
"Arturs, if you are reading this, please get in touch with your family or police to let us know you are okay. Otherwise, if you have seen Arturs, or know where he is, call us."
Contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Warning as Sussex woman loses thousands in a widespread scam
Police are warning residents to be in their guard as people are being tricked out of thousands of pounds in a scam spreading across the South.
Two people in Sussex have become the latest victims of fraudsters phoning and pretending to be police officers. They tell the residents that their bank account has been compromised and that they need to withdraw thousands of pounds for examination and give it to a courier.
Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: "The people that call are working off a script and may ask for money or your bank cards and details to be handed over to a courier they are sending to your home. Do not hand over any money and be alert to the fact that they may keep the phone line open and pretend to be the police if you try to report it, requesting that you not to report it further. We don't want to scare people but you need to know that there have been many reports in Surrey and across the south east. If you get a call do not hand over money or your bank cards and details. They may ask you to immediately call them back on 999 but be aware that they are keeping the line open. If you are suspicious that they have left the line open report it to police by mobile phone or ask a neighbour, friend or family member to report it. Police officers would never have a reason to make such calls and you should never hand over cash or your bank details. If you get such a call do not do what they say but report it to police."

FIREFIGHTERS TACKLE PULBOROUGH HOUSE FIRE
Around 40 firefighters have been tackling a fire at a house in Pulborough this afternoon. The fire is now out and thankfully there are no reported injuries.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was called to the detached property at Gay Street Lane in Pulborough just after 12.30 this afternoon. The first crews arrived at the property within minutes and were faced with a developing fire in the garage and roof space of the two-storey house so assistance from additional fire crews was immediately requested. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire and quickly prevented further spread using 4 main jets and 2 high pressure hose reels. Two small gas cylinders involved in the fire were removed and made safe. The blaze, which is believed

to have started accidentally in the garage, is now out but firefighters remain on the scene damping down affected areas.
Support and assistance for the occupiers of the property is being provided by the Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service.

Incident: Drainage work scam warning in West Sussex
Police are warning people particularly the elderly to be on their guard against conmen who call and ask for money to pay for equipment for drainage works.
A series of such calls have been made in Chichester, East Grinstead and Worthing where conmen have called at a residents homes saying they are carrying out drainage works and they need cash to pay for specialist machinery. This is usually followed up by several phone calls by someone pretending to be from the drainage company asking for the money to be sent to them. This is a scam aimed at obtaining large sums of cash out of residents by telling them they need to pay for equipment for essential drainage work to their property to be carried out. Don't let any strangers into your home, give out your phone number or withdraw money to give to them.
Phone police on 101 to report any suspicious behaviour.

Ryan Carney
Issued by Sussex Police at the request and on behalf of Ryan's family
The family of Ryan Carney who died when his car left the road near Linchmere, West Sussex, have released a tribute to him.
Ryan Carney, aged 21, of Kings Road, Haslemere, sadly died after his car left the road on the B2131 Liphook Road, near Linchmere,on Monday morning 21 October.
Ryan's parents, Simon and Maria, speaking on behalf of the family, said: "We have great memories of Rhino, an intelligent and talented young man who was always fun to be around whatever the occasion. A son and brother we can be very proud of. We have been inundated with tributes from his friends and work colleagues, and it has been a great consolation to learn just how highly regarded he was by so many people. Ryan worked as a chef at The Links pub in Liphook and was a member of Midhurst Rugby Club, where a minutes silence was held in his honour last Saturday. We are continuing with a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the collision, and we would like to speak with anyone who may have seen Ryan's green Peugeot 106 being driven between Liphook and Haslemere, which we believe would have been in the early hours of Monday morning. FIRE report
Time: 00.50am
Location: The Hartings, Flansham
Incident: SMOKE ALARM SAVES FAMILY OF FIVE
A mother and her four young children were able to escape safely from a house fire in Bognor this morning thanks to their smoke alarm.
Two fire crews from Bognor were called to the terraced house at The Hartings in Flansham at 12.50am this morning after a candle left burning unattended started a fire in the family's living room. The occupier, a woman in her thirties, and her four young children were all asleep in bed when a candle left burning on an oak table caught light to paper and clothing left nearby. Thankfully, the house was fitted with two working smoke alarms which activated and alerted the woman to the developing fire giving the family the time they needed to escape safely.
Crews from Bognor were on scene just minutes later and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house to find the ground floor living room heavily smoke logged. The fire was quickly extinguished using a hose reel but the living room was left damaged by fire and smoke.
Incident Commander, Jon Etherinton, said afterwards: "This incident highlights once again the importance of having a working smoke alarm in your home. The family were all asleep in bed when the fire started and had their smoke alarms not alerted them, this fire could have had extremely serious consequences."

POLICE report - Ref: PR43744 / 2013
Time: 8am
Incident: PC hurt during arrests in West Sussex
A police constable was injured in an attempt to stop a suspect car in Ford, West Sussex.
The Sussex Road Policing officer approached a stolen car which had come to a stop in a cul de sac, Gaugemaster Way, Ford, shortly after 8am, after being followed by police cars for some distance across West Sussex. It had first been spotted on the eastbound A27 at Emsworth at about 7.15am. As the officer ran up and took hold of the drivers door of the car it reversed and he was trapped by the door, and was dragged along for a short distance before being thrown free. The car sped off, ramming a police car and causing slight injury. However other officers stopped it in nearby Burndell Road, Yapton, soon afterwards, and arrested the two occupants, a man who was driving the car, and a woman passenger. The car had been reported stolen from outside a house in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and the 39-year old man of no fixed address, and the 36-year old Isle of Wight woman, are currently in custody for interview and further enquiries. The officer was treated at St Richards Hospital, Chichester. Police state they are very grateful to local people in Yapton and Ford, who came out and provided valuable assistance, and information about what was happening and the movements of the car.

A working smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you're awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke and will give you that early warning that could make the difference.
