Lodsworth is a small village in West Sussex situated between Midhurst and Petworth, close to the A272. It lies just to the north of the River Rother, and a small tributary, the 'Lod' runs close to the east end of Lodsworth village. The Parish includes the hamlet of Lickfold and part of Selham.
It has a small Anglican church, St. Peters, The Hollist Arms pub and Lodsworth village hall. Closeby is the Halfway Bridge Pub on the A272 and north of Lodsworth, the Lickfold Inn.
EH Shepard, the illustrator of Winnie the Pooh and The Wind in the Willows, lived near the church and is buried in Lodsworth churchyard with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet engraved on his tomb.
In the census of 2001 Lodsworth had a total population of 690 within 282 households.

Ernest H. Shepard Artist & illustrator 1879 - 1976   Resided: Woodmancote, Lodsworth   Shepard became famous as a book illustrator, notably for Winnie the Pooh stories written by A. A. Milne also his Wind in the Willows characters were very popular. Known to his family and friends as Kipper, Shepard married Florence Chaplin, granddaughter one of the founders of Punch Magazine. Shepard was appointed OBE in 1972. He died on 24 March 1976, at the age of 96 and is buried in Lodsworth churchyard with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet engraved on his tomb.   Shepard, EH - biography   This letter recently came up for sale [Apr.2008] Autograph Letter Signed to Keith Clarke, from - Woodmancote, Lodsworth, 24 January 1974. Regretting that he cannot assist Clarke with his book because he had only met Anning Bell once...and that was years ago when I was a young man..."I am 95 years old and my memory is failing." July 2009 The Lodsworth Larder - New Village Shop Lodsworth has not had a local store since 1988. The original shop, which was also the Post Office, was near the Hollist Arms pub between Primrose Cottage and Hazel View. Local residents have been helping fund the work by buying roof tiles with their names on. Ben Law is in charge of the build This is a worthy venture that no doubt will be well supported. The shop was opened on the 7th November 2009 by 3 of the oldest residents, Betty Redding, 93, Betty Simmonds, 92, and Marion Martlew, 80. - visit the shop website videos of shop under construction Three of village's oldest residents open new shop - Nov.2009 A Lodsworth WW2 Refugee Miss O. ran The Studio School, Lodsworth. It was called that because it had been built as an artists studio. Although it was a substantial two-storey house it was noteworthy because one wall was filled with an enormous window The next day there was a heavy raid on Midhurst, only a small market town, and much damage done. Later a school in Petworth received a direct hit and many children were killed... click for complete story Terence O'Meara After retirement the O'Mearas lived in a house he designed, in Lodsworth, where he remained active in personal and community affairs until after his 90th birthday.
