New Rother Raft Race Logo

The Rother Raft Race was started in 1981 by Chris Konieczny, to raise money for the Petworth Panthers and to build Duncton Pavilion. At the first race there were only about 30 entries. Over the years, numbers increased, sometimes to nearly 100.
Held every year on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday, it was an event enjoyed by the whole family, young and old.

RRR website announcement
11th March 2009
Dear Rother Rafters

ROTHER RAFT RACE 2009

I'm delighted to announce that the 2009 Rother Raft Race will be taking place this year on Sunday 30th August 2009.

We're currently working hard to ensure everything is in place to run a successful and enjoyable event for rafters and spectators. So please start polishing up those rafts and considering your fancy dress outfits. We aim to get a new entry form on the new web site and out to previous competitors soon.

Kind Regards
Anthony Weller

If you feel you could lend a hand leading up to the raft race and-or on the day and - or clearing up afterwards, or any time over the Bank Holiday weekend then please contact;

ROTHER RAFT RACE SUNK
copy of email received 25 November 2008

25 November 2008

Over the last 27 years The Rother Raft Race has become a great local event. This year raising over £13,000.00 for local charity.

Sadly, due to an increase in legislation and red tape by local authorities, we have decided to end the Raft Race, 2008 was the last year under our tenure. There may be others who feel that they can continue the event, and should such people come forward we will give them every encouragement to run the race.
We would like to extend our warm thanks to you for your all you hard work, helping us to run the event. Without your assistance over the years we would not have seen the successes that we have.

I have enclosed the letter that we are sending to all competitors and supporters.

Yours sincerely
Robin Shapland & Ron Dudman
