Elderly man assaulted in Midhurst

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in broad daylight in North Street, Midhurst.
 
The incident happened outside Barclays Bank just before 9am on Friday 23 March and several members of the public are thought to have been in the area at the time.
 
The victim, who is in his late 60s, was on his scooter when he was approached by the suspect who verbally abused him before pulling him off the vehicle. Although uninjured, he was left very shaken.
 
A police spokesperson said- "This incident happened in the town centre at a busy time of day. We are sure that some members of the public saw what happened but haven't contacted police - we would urge them to do so as soon as possible.
 
Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and reason for the attack and we are also supporting the victim, who understandably was very upset by what had happened."
 
Anyone who saw something - no matter how small or insignificant it may seem - is asked to call police on 101, quoting number 0357 of 23 March. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
