Police and emergency services attended the scene near London Road at around 2pm. A member of the public witnessed the collision and alerted the emergency services whilst following the cyclist into Hotham Park and returning him to the scene until police arrived. A police spokesperson said- "This was an unfortunate incident for the elderly woman, who has suffered a painful fracture, but thankfully remains in a stable condition. "I would like to thank the member of the public who helped the injured woman and showed great initiative by following the cyclist into a nearby park and persuading him to return to the scene. "We would like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the incident or saw a man wearing a black jacket, and riding a bicycle along Sudley Road shortly before the collision. Police attended Caledonian House, Barnfield Road, Crawley, this morning following a report of a fire shortly after 12.15am. The fire was in a bin store cupboard located within the block of flats on the second floor. Approximately 20 flats were initially evacuated, however the majority of the residents were let back a short time later. The residents of around seven flats were not able to go home and were provided accommodation by British Red Cross or have made arrangements to temporarily stay with friends and relatives. A 52-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both from Crawley, have been arrested on suspicion of abstracting electricity. They both remain in custody. A joint investigation between Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is taking place and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The black Ford Mondeo, left outside the Herons Leisure Centre in Kings Road, was set alight sometime between 9.40pm and 10.05pm on Friday, 20 April. The blaze caused £8,000 worth of damage to the car, whose owner had been using the gym, when the incident happened.
Inspector Simon Dann investigating wants to speak to anyone who was in the Herons car park just before 10pm and may have noticed someone acting suspiciously. He said: "Anyone driving out of the car park would have had to pass the attacked vehicle and may have seen something which could help officers locate the suspect and bring them to justice. Similarly, I want to hear from anyone who may have seen someone climbing over the railway fence between the sports centre and Haslemere railway station around this time". At approximately 6.45pm on Saturday 21 April police attended the River Rother near Petworth following a report of a man having fallen into the river. It transpired that Mr Crosswell had fallen from his kayak while travelling along the river with a friend, and died. A postmortem has taken place and the cause of death has been established as drowning. Police report Ref: PR38989/2012 Time: 14:50 FATAL CRASH - GOODWOOD RACE TRACK Location: Goodwood Incident: A racing driver has died in a tragic crash at Goodwood motor racing circuit. The incident happened during a time trial event when 37-year old Sandra Harrison-Moore, of Blackthorn Grove, Milton Keynes, who was driving a Caterham type sports car apparently lost control coming out of the last bend during a race and collided with a tyre wall. She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious head injuries but died there at 10.10pm. Sussex Road Policing officers were called to the circuit and have been investigating the crash on behalf of HM Coroner for West Sussex but there is no evidence of any other vehicle being involved. The car driver, a local man who was alone in the car, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but not life threatening injuries after he collided with the lorry in Keymer Road, Hassocks, near the railway bridge, at 1.10pm on Monday 30 April. The lorry driver was unhurt. PC Christina Lane of the Sussex Road Policing Unit said- "Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact us via 101 quoting serial 2012 of 30-4."
