Romans in West Sussex
AD43

2,000-year-old Roman body found in West Sussex
Roman Posting Station, Iping - Milland
Roman silver coins found in Petworth - November 2008
Roman Roads from Chichester
Stane street - Silchester Road - Winchester Road - Selsey Road

Fishbourne Roman Palace
Discovered by accident during the digging of a water main trench in 1960. The discovery led to nine seasons of excavations that showed the site had developed from a military base at the time of the Roman invasion in AD43 to a sumptuous Palace by the end of the first century.

Bignor Roman Villa
Discovered by George Tupper in 1811 after striking it with his plough. The site still remains in the Tupper Family ownership to this day.

Midhurst is thought to have been the Roman station of Miba

Pulborough on Stane Street was once a Roman station. Relics of the occupation are constantly turning up in the neighbourhood. Near the church is a mound, on which stood the 'castellum'. A glance at a map will show the commanding position the station held over the meeting of the Arun and Rother. There are traces of a Roman villa at Borough Hill north-east of the village.
