Police crack part of Crawley drug network
ref- PR42911 /2013
17 July 2013

Police believe they have uncovered a key part of a major drugs network in a raid in Crawley.
Officers discovered a system to steal electricity from the supply used to power street lights outside a home. Offenders had drilled holes through a concrete garage floor in Cotton Walk, Broadfield, and had run cables from there to a nearby lamppost where they had tapped into the electricity supply. The extra energy was needed to run a small scale cannabis factory inside a home. A number of mature plants were growing inside the property. Police believe the limited number of cannabis plants in the home could be a new tactic used by drug gangs to try to reduce the impact of a raid on their supply chain. Instead of the gangs using one or two large factories to produce drugs, officers think they could have set up a string of smaller factories across the area to give them regular batches.
At the Broadfield property the garage, raided today, was fitted with a false wall to conceal the drug production line.
A 38-year-old man from Crawley was arrested, questioned and released on bail until 25 July.
Anyone with information about drug dealing in their area should call 101
or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

The image shows the street light and how wires have been passed under the ground to connect it to the property illegally.
