GADD Family These pages are in a temporary format and are constantly being reassembled. entry 2:1 Gadds listed in the 1873 Return of Landowners :- Gadd, George, Heyshott, Midhurst Acres: 112-0-36 Rent-91pds 1 Gadd, Willis, Heyshott, Midhurst Acres: 111-0-36 Rent: 89pds 1 Willis and George of Heyshott were sons of William & Mary Gadd, and that a William Gadd was christened in 1786 in Graffham entry 2:2 21 Apr 1774 Henry GADD + Jane LAWRANCE at Archdeaconry of Chichester, Marriage Licence was issued "Henry Gadd of Cocking, 1 year. Bachelor, Yeoman aged 24. [b 1750] and Jane Lawrence spinster of Oving aged 25 years. [b.1749] entry 2:3 Henry and Jane [Lawrence] at Graffham had the following children christened Richard Gad [d], son of Henry & Jane, was christened 14 Jun 1792 at Graffham note: this Richard Gadd is actually my direct line to this family as he is my great x 3 grandfather on my father's side! He died in Surrey in 1872. Other baptisms same place same parents... [Graffham] George 11th June 1784 Henry 6th November 1778 Elizabeth 17th October 1782 Martha 16th November 1780 William 28th February 1786 Thomas 14th June 1782 Ann 14th June 1792 Jane 6th November 1778 In 1776 1st December Henry Gad christened at Cocking Sussex parents Henry Gad and Jane 27 August 1775 Polly Gad christened same place same parents [Polly latter married at Graffham in 1794 to a John Hellyer] 19th February 1800 Ann Gad ditto entry 2:4 Married by licence on the 13th Feb 1817 at Earnley Richard Gadd of Cocking several years, bachelor, farmer aged 21 years and up and Alice Symonds of Earnley several years, spinster. [This is Richard Gadd, Bob Campbells ancestor] entry 2:5 Richard Simmons [Symonds] Gadd son of Richard & Alice was christened 26.MAR.1818 Earnley Sussex This Richard S. Gadd who went on to be a farm bailiff or manager [Bobs great x 2 grandfather.] [died at Lambourn, Berkshire in 1893] entry 2:6 1841 CENSUS & WEST SUSSEX GADD families [very basic and short on details] HO107-1102 HEYSHOTT folio 8 page 10 Gadds in the 1841 Heyshott census returns, with age WILLIAM GADD 55 farmer MARTHA 50 WILLIS 20 EDWARD 15 MARY 20 full 1841 census returns for Heyshott GRAFFHAM folio 6 page 7 HENRY GADD 60 farmer [1780] CHARLOTTE 55 [1775] Both born in Sussex [Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index: Place: Bosham, West Sussex, Date: 24 Jan 1811: Subject: Henry GADD, widr of Graffham Spouse: Charlotte REYNOLDS, sp otp- GRAFFHAM folio 7 page 10 GEORGE GADD 25 farmer MARTHA 24 entry 2:11 Also 1841 Richard Gadd his second wife and family are listed...... 1841 census at Barlavington page 16 schedule - folio 3 Richard Gadd, 50, farmer, [born in Sussex] [age rounded maybe around 1791] Mary Gadd 45 Richard Gadd 21 [Richard Symonds Gadd] Alice Gadd 20 [1818] Emma Gadd 15 Elizabeth Gadd 15 entry 2:7 Saint James Church, Selham. certificate says..... both shown as full age Richard being a farmer from Barlavington with father [Richard Gadd also a farmer, Caroline's address is simply Selham, her father Eli Smith also a farmer.] entry 2:8 Melville's 1858 directory of Sussex these entries..... Richard Gadd, at Old Mill, Lurgashall [ this is Richard Symonds Gadd, same village where Bob Campbells great grandmother and 2 sisters were born in the 1860s] Richard Gadd farmer at Barlavington [this is Richard Symonds Gadd's father] George Willis Gadd [farmer] at Heyshott entry 2:9 1809 from the Sussex Weekly Advertiser Game Duty. An Alphabetical List of Persons who have obtained General Certificates for killing of Game in the County of Sussex, for the present Year, which List is made up to the 9th inst. Published by Order of his Majestys Commissioners for the Affairs of Taxes. Matthew Winter, Sec. Sept 16, 1809. Monday, September 18th, 1809 Gadd, William, from Heyshott entry 2:10 From a report by a George Pearce who did research of the Gadd family 20 years ago comes this information... Henry Gadd's will was proved in 1808 The following burials took place at Heyshott 30th May 1806 Jane Gadd wife of Henry 23rd May 1808 Henry Gadd [born c.1750/51 around 58 years old] 4th of April 1815 a George Gadd aged 30 years was buried at Cocking, this was the son of Henry [above] christened 11th June 1784.
