Incident: Barn Fire - dutch barn 30mx20m with asbestos sheeting roof containing 170 tonnes of straw 100% involved in fire - all livestock removed from barn along with 1 tractor by farmer before arrival of F&RS - 4HRS by F&RS to prevent fire spread - contents of barn allowed to burn out under control - arson

Incident: Fire - 3 storey building - shop on ground floor with flats above - 1st floor flat well alight - fire and smoke issuing from the first and second floors of building - 6BA, 2HRs used by F&RS - thermal imaging camera used to assist in locating any hot areas - 70% of 1st floor flat destroyed by fire, remainder of flat severely damaged by smoke - 2nd floor flat slightly damaged by smoke and ventilated naturally - 1 female adult treated by ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation - cause of the fire under investigation

WEDNESDAY 25 NOVEMBER - 2009

Location: O/S WEST ASHLING MILL - DOWN STREET WEST ASHLING
Incident: RTC - The driver of a WRVS van had a miraculous escape this morning when a huge tree crashed down on his vehicle as he was driving through West Ashling near Chichester. Emergency services were called to Down Street, West Ashling shortly after 11am, but found the driver, a male believed to be in his thirties, had already managed to escape and was being helped by members of public. Remarkably he seemed relatively uninjured but was taken to hospital by ambulance for precautionary checks. The road was closed temporarily as West Sussex County Council Highways Dept cleared the fallen tree.
