FERNHURST MAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE

A 64 year old shot dead by police at Fernhurst in West Sussex today has been named as Mervyn Tussler.
Police said a woman had called to report a man with a gun in Fernhurst, West Sussex, this morning.
Armed response vehicles and police dog handlers arrived in the village at around 11.30am.
There, according to neighbours, they surrounded a warden-assisted retirement home run by Hanover Property Management.
An eyewitness said officers used a loud hailer to encourage the man to leave his flat. Another eyewitness said she heard a policewoman shout "We have stunned him, get an ambulance" during the confrontation. One resident said a man had been seen waving a gun in front of other people at the home.
According to police, at around 2.20pm the man was fatally shot by officers. Mr Tussler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources said the man had not been holding anyone hostage.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission [IPCC] said an investigation had been launched and officials were at the scene.
