Friends in Your Community

Friendship can offer so much. Confidence, enjoyment and a renewed interest in old hobbies are just a few benefits. Losing touch with our friends and social networks through life circumstances can often be quite easy. As we get older or have experienced illness we may find it more difficult to make new friends or get back in touch with old ones. To take the outside world into a person, to see them gain in confidence as they renew old pastimes to build a friendship with another human being can be an amazing journey for all involved.

Chichester Area Mind has received a grant of £10,000 from the Awards for All, Big Lottery Fund to support its volunteers offering a befriending service. The volunteers offer friendship to people who have become detached from their local community due to their mental health and possible isolated location. The volunteers may drop in for a chat, or, with their friend go for a walk, make a trip to the local market, visit the shops, etc.

Chichester Area Mind are currently looking for volunteers to act as befrienders. Training and support are offered.
