Dr. John Robinson
1824 - 1891

Born in Heyshott, a brother of George Robinson [1811-1891]
In 1830, aged six, John went to live in 'The Old Surgery', North Street, Midhurst. He was sent to live with Mary, his aunt, who was married to Dr Joseph Hicks, found living there in the 1841 census. Dr. Joseph Hicks had qualified before 1815 and also married in 1815. They brought John up as their own son, educated him at the Grammar school and of course he carried on the medical profession in his uncles footsteps. John lived there until he died in 1891.
Joseph and Mary Hicks were childless and so in return for having John, bought the lease for 'Heatherview' in Heyshott, for John's parents to live in for their lifetime. All the family were mostly agricultural labourers, so John's Aunt did very well marrying a Doctor and surgeon.
John Robinson married Caroline Goble who was the widow of Henry Wells, an attorney, living in Sheep Lane, Midhurst...she died, 23 September 1887
Dr Joseph Hicks died 17th September 1865
