Beachy Head

Construction of the Belle Tout lighthouse began in 1831 on the headland west of Beachy Head. Due to the height, mists and low cloud often hid the light from view. As a result, a lighthouse was built in the sea below Beachy Head. It was 43m [141 ft] in height and began operating in October 1902. For over 80 years, the tower was manned and maintained by 3 lighthouse keepers. In 1983 it became fully automated.

This is the first age that's ever paid much attention to the future,
which is a little ironic since we may not have one..
