Birling Gap

Birling Gap is situated on the Seven Sisters close to Beachy Head. Coastal erosion has already removed most of the coastguard cottages built 1878, those remaining are still inhabited. It is probable that erosion will soon cause most of this area to fall into the sea.
The beach has a large number of rockpools and fossils.
Artist Jean Cooke lived here painting seascapes. She died here in 2008 looking at the sea.
