On 19th Nov.1951 floods washed away a bridge, just south of Midhurst.
A goods train, being pulled by locomotive Ex LB&SCR C2X No.32522 fell into the gap. As a result the top end of the line beyond Cocking was abandoned. The Midhurst to Chichester line was opened in 1881, passenger services were withdrawn in 1935. - - - click here for larger image |
