This pub sign shows W. G. Grace. The pub was renamed the Cricketers by Jemmy Dean. He played cricket for Sussex in the 19th century and was a resident of Duncton. Jemmy Dean was the Landlord when the pub was owned by John Wisden. In 1899 the pub was ran by Mrs Ann Pescod.
