London Borough of Haringey

Founded in the 5th and 6th centuries its old name of Haeringehaia meant 'meadow of hares'. Remaining rural up to the 18th century when large country houses close to London became much more common. Railways sped up rapid urbanisation & by the turn of the century much of Haringey had become urbanised.
