German Submarine U118

15th of April 1919 - the surrendered German Submarine U118 was washed ashore on the beach at Hastings, Sussex after breaking its towrope on the way to Scapa Flow.
Seen as an unusual Easter attraction, by sightseers, until a build-up of chlorine gas poisoned coastguards, two of whom died. U118 was an extremely large submarine for its time.
