Shipley Church

This village takes its name from a Saxon word meaning 'the place of pasture'. In the Horsham District of West Sussex it lies just off the A272 road 6 miles -9.6 km- north east of Storrington. The western River Adur flows through the village.
The Church of St Mary the Virgin was built c1125 by the Order of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, aka the Knights Templar, who held lands in the parish. Composer John Ireland is buried here.
The poet Hilaire Belloc had connections with the village, living in the windmill which was the home of 'Jonathan Creek' in the TV series.
