View west from the bridge shows remains of the 'cut' from the River Rother which lays beyond the trees.
Now overgrown and silted up, this canal cut brought boats from the river to The Wharf.
 
The water flowing through here comes from South Pond.
 
In the early parts of the 1900's, though commercial traffic had ceased, this area was used for pleasure boating and a boat could be hired for the day and rowed to Fittleworth.
