South Pond, Midhurst
This large pond close to The Spread Eagle hotel was built to serve South Mill, which is now a private house.
' The creation of South Pond may have flooded the southern end of North Street causing the road to be diverted.
Hence the strange and sudden turn into Knockhundred Row, where it would have entered the North Gate of the
defensive wall that surrounded the settlement and continued towards Chichester over the Mill dam.' (South street)
