This photo is of one of the Coultershaw Mill tied cottages. The construction is in sandstone with a slate roof. The bottom right hand window was for the Scullery which had a copper boiler and butler style sink during the 40s later modernised to remove boiler and add a free standing bath together with a water heater.
The centre window was for the Kitchen with an open fire leading to a small pantry at the rear.
Left of the porch was the sitting room also with an open fire. The outside toilet, located some 40 yards from the back door, was replaced by a toilet with flush facilities a mere 4 yards away. A pipe had to be laid underground to run 50 yards to a soak away near a meadow at the bottom of the garden.
One of the 3 upstairs bedrooms could only be accessed via another bedroom.
I am on the bicycle photographed with an Uncle Cecil from Worthing.
