These pictures show an area of the rother we called Tumble Bay, a popular area for swimming which ran adjacent to Kilsham lane across a field from the mill about 400 metres away. It was in a section of river that separated from the the Rother upstream and rejoined it the other side of the mill the same distance downstream. I think that this helped to balance out the flow for the mill when not in operation. The photo below shows the initial stepped fall with good flow just before it went over a second several foot drop into a pool, the people I do not know. The photo above shows when the water level was low and not cascading over. My grandfather Ronald Barnet is on the left and my mother Vera aged about nine in the centre. My grandmother Lilian is sat on the right and the other two ladies are aunts visiting from London. The year is probably around 1934. This was another place that the Salmon trout jumped as they headed upstream.
