Shoulder of Mutton and Cucumbers pub, Yapton, Sussex c., Ref- 536 - - click image below to return
Its name was unique and at one time the longest name of any English pub. It refers to the dominant dish offered coach travellers a couple of hundred years ago being cucumber sauce as a standard Sussex addition to mutton.
Deeds dating to 1694 exist for the original building on the site, later occupied by the present building which became the Shoulder of Mutton and Cucumbers in 1832. The pub closed 2007
