In detestation of a barbarous murder
committed here on an unknown sailor.
On 24 September 1786
By Edward Lonegon, Michael Casey & James Marshall.
Who were all taken the same day
and hung in chains near this place.
 
This stone was erected
1786 by James Stilwell Esq. of Cosford
and was renovated 24 September 1889 by
James John Russell Stilwell Esq. of Killinghurst
The descendant and representitive of the Stilwells
of Cosford and Moushill
