These two young ladies at around 20 years old in the early 30's would be known today as 'Groupies'. They used to follow Ron Jeans Danceband around West Sussex. The girl on the left was my Aunt Marjorie, my Mothers' next sister. She lived in Shoreham by Sea in her later years, and only died in 2006 aged 94. In her early years she worked at Rosemary's Parlour at the bottom of North Street, Midhurst. She then moved to Brighton, and was a waitress at Hills of Hove, then worked in watchmakers and jewellers in Hove, until WW2. She joined the National Fire Service, and was a Gym Instructor, in Birmingham. She married in 1942 but unfortunately he died in 1951. She returned to Midhurst for a time and was Housekeeper at the Angel Hotel, Midhurst, before moving back to Brighton, where she became assistant Catering Manager at Debenhams. She met and married the assistant store manager, of that branch, and moved to Andover where her husband became store manager. They retired back to Shoreham, where she was widowed once more in the early 1990's.
The young lady, with my Aunt Marjorie, was a cousin of mine, Phylis Cleverly. She married later, and lived in Wool Lane, Midhurst. Her husband taught me to model balsa wood model airplanes, during my time, evacuated to Midhurst.
