Engraving of the Chain Pier, Brighton, Sussex, 1838, Ref- 691 - - click image below to return Engraving by Charles Hunt after a drawing by Campion. The Chain Pier opened 1823 primarily to accommodate the ever growing passenger traffic between England and France. It survived many storms but finally succumbed 4th December 1896. Beyond the pier stands the Royal Albion Hotel opened 1826.
