The Dyke railway was opened in 1887 by the Brighton and Dyke Railway Company, and proved very popular. Over the 1893 August Bank Holiday alone approximately 30,000 people visited the Dyke, many brought by the railway. It was finally closed 1st January 1939. - wiki
