Brighton, Sussex, 1944, Mrs Pitt, wife of the landlord, pours a pint of beer for a naval officer in the saloon bar of 'The Cricketers' pub in Brighton.
The original caption states that this pub had been in existence since 1545. Landlord Robert Pitt, not pictured as he was ill the day the photograph
was taken, had held the license for 58 years and was now 90 years old. According to the original caption, he still served behind the bar.
Note the improvised shades on the lights as part of air raid precautions
