Serious Gas explosion in Knightsbridge

Yesterday afternoon, shortly before 2pm, an explosion of gas occurred at Albert Gate Mansions resulting in serious injury to four workmen.
The premises are in the occupation of Mr. John Charlton Humphreys and at the time mentioned one of the servants was seeking for an escape of gas in one of the lower rooms using a naked light
An explosion took place having the effect of wrecking the five rooms on the first floor.
Four workmen in the employ of a Fulham builder who were working beneath were so badly injured by falling bricks and glass that they had to be conveyed to St George's Hospital. Their names are - James Billinger, general foreman; James Kirkman, labourer; Bartholomew Carroll, labourer; Henry Davidson, painter.
Four fire engines attended under the supervision of superintendent Charlton and a large force of Police was present under Inspector Hogbin.
