The FERNHURST CLUB
8 APRIL 2026
TO ALL CONCERNED
THERE IS NO LONGER A CLUB WORKING COMMITTEE
THE LAST 3 TRUSTEES HAVE NOW CEASED DUTIES
Our Chairman Don Vowels has retired.
Aged 92 he feels it is time to call it a day.
Tom Przepiorka now lives near Hastings
too far to travel to be an active Trustee.
Phil Dixon, Secretary, is now in his late 70s
His wife has recently suffered 2 heart attacks
and he suffers with ill health himself.
He is about to retire and looking to hand over to
someone capable, part of a team who want to be totally involved.
TAKE NOTICE
UNLESS REPLACEMENT TRUSTEES ARE IN PLACE BY THE END OF APRIL 2026 THE CLUB WILL CEASE TO EXIST AND THE PREMISES SOLD.
THE BALANCE WILL BE DONATED TO A VILLAGE ORGANISATION.
WHO WILL BENEFIT IS UNDER DISCUSSION.

THIS PAGE HAS CARRIED REQUESTS FOR TRUSTEES SINCE NOVEMBER 2025
It has to date -[ 6 April 26 ]- been read 1,443 times since that date.
We have received 31 replies, all sympathetic, but none of which have offered to take on the responsibilities, duties & tasks expected, including their accountability to the Charity Commission for outcomes of
being a Trustee. This we do totally understand.
Please would the usual village idiots [of whom we have many more than our fair share], magicians, know alls and other 'special' entitled people note that we will be no longer wasting time replying to them.
TEMPORARY CLOSURE
January 2020
As everyone is aware, prior to the present committee, the club had incurred very large debts.
Although we are managing to pay these slowly, the penalties, fees and charges involved are taking their toll.
Even with a lowering footfall we do still manage to cover our everyday
running costs, but are simply treading water with the debt millstone
around our necks waiting to sink us with the slightest wave. We cannot
with the present income continue to operate and catch up on the larger
debts and invest even in the smallest project.
In November 2019 the Fire Brigade stated, after visiting, that they
required a number of changes made within the building - this wasn't just
advice, it was a directive. This included 2 new walls and further fire doors to be constructed within the Stewards house
At the beginning of December, British Gas [Electricity] decided they wanted all monies owed them.
Due to the inefficiencies of the electrical system the club has an
electricity bill of around £800 to £1000 per month - even though we were
only opening 2 full days and 2 days at 3 hrs each. Although we offered
£7,000, they still refused and stated that they required full payment
plus a further 6 months current usage charges as a deposit - or switch
off - which they then did.
There has been no, significant, investment in the premises over the past
30 years or so with the whole fabric and security of the building
becoming totally inadequate.
In a survey of members visiting the club over the weeks before December -
all felt that the club was very run down.
Without any exceptions they all agreed that revenue should be raised to
refurbish and make it fit for purpose.
Unless we change and adapt to new times, we will follow all the other
clubs and pubs that are disappearing and lose a valuable asset to the
area.
The present committee are determined to keep the club alive, but until
we have obtained the significant funding we are working to achieve, and
have refurbished, we are closed to general use.
Members will be told of further developments on this page......

UPDATE 8
Date 10.06.2024
Installing solar panels system
UPDATE 14
Date 24.02.2025
In answer to some questions posed in the last month...
ALL debts are paid.
Due to financing problems and the unforeseen challenges presented by
Covid, all club memberships actually expired at the end of March 2020.
Only the committee, who are working to ensure that our club continues in existence, remain members.
To clarify, the only active members at present are the committee
members, as without them, the club would no longer exist.
Those individuals who have attempted to pay subscriptions, have had them
returned. Accepting such payments would be unfair, and it would give
the impression that the committee is favouring particular members over
others.
Because of the time it is taking to restore the utilities and the general
infrastructure there is continuing uncertainty regarding when exactly we
will be reopening.
Until further notice the club will remain closed, with access
restricted to only those with permission or working on the
refurbishment.
Any changes to this position will be posted here, and an email will be
sent to interested parties, advising of the the changes.
It has been a long and very difficult journey, with constant
extended delays, and we are grateful for your understanding and patience
during this process.
This is as frustrating for us as it is for everyone else.
It also needs to be borne in mind that, funds needed to accomplish
the necessary works to make the Club viable only became available to use
in August 2023, with actual works commencing late September 2023.
The 'works' initial timetable we were working to of 12 to 14 months,
very quickly became defunct thanks to the incredible delays we have
encountered, we are now 4 months over. A prime delay example being
nearly 10 months from payment for a new water supply, to actually being
connected. By which time the plumber had disappeared...etc
Thank you,
The Fernhurst Club Committee
