Above chemist were H.G. Wells worked in 1881,
Cowap's Chemist Shop
 
now Church Hill Dental Surgery.[2007]
Church Hill, Midhurst
 
February, 1882, The Midhurst Times showed Mr Cowap, the chemist in Church Street (now Church Hill) was plying his own brands of cough linctus, toothache tincture and chilblain liniment.

Above 'Ye Olde Tea Shoppe'
North Street, Midhurst
 
In 1881 HG Wells was apprenticed to a chemist on Church Hill and enrolled for evening classes at Midhurst Grammar School. Later he returned as a teacher, lodging above a sweetshop in North Street which is now 'Ye Olde Tea Shoppe'.
