    Town Stocks

The photo shown left, c1900, was obviously posed for the benefit of the camera. The last time the stocks were used was in 1859 when Henry Eldridge was ordered to 6 hours in them for failing to pay a fine. A noisy crowd of many hundreds objected so much, that he was released after only 25 minutes.
