Heyshotteyshott is a small West Sussex village on the lower slopes of the South Downs, 4 miles south of Midhurst & east of Cocking.
A scattered village which has lost its shop and school, but still has its pub, its church, village hall and farm shop.

Heyshott was the birthplace of Richard Cobden, the leader of the Anti-corn law league, his regular pew is marked by a small plaque in the 13th century village church of St James.

Every November, for 60 years, hundreds of visitors have annually flocked here for the popular village Bonfire and Firework display.

Heyshott was also well known for its Harvesting the Old Fashioned Way festival occuring each September, which celebrated the agricultural history of the village and surrounding areas.
According to the 2001 census Heyshott parish covered 938 hectares and had 131 households with a total population of 309.

Found Memories

In the tiny English village of Heyshott,
The weary traveler can find peace and rest.
Elizabethan cottages the landscape dot
Guarding against changes, preserving the best.

The meadowlarks sing; the snapdragons snap;
The violets and buttercups secretly converse;
In simple English gardens that paint pictures
Which inspire and enhance great English verse.

The wild strawberries know how superior they are.
Kissed by the sun, these berries so coy,
Have a flavor which excels all others by far.
Blessed are they who may taste and enjoy.

Such beautiful memories can be stored away
To come back to cheer on some dreary day.
