HEYSHOTT West Sussex

East of the Midhurst to Chichester A286 road, Heyshott is a small village on the lower slopes of the South Downs, 4 miles south of Midhurst & 2 miles east of Cocking. A scattered village which has lost its shop but still has its pub, the Unicorn, and its church.
Heyshott was the birthplace of Richard Cobden, the leader of the Anti-corn law league, his regular pew is marked by a small plaque in the 13th century village church of St James.
Heyshott is well known for its Harvesting the Old Fashioned Way festival occuring each September, which celebrates the agricultural history of the village and surrounding areas.
Every November, for over 55 years, hundreds of visitors have annually flocked here for it's popular village Bonfire and Firework display.
According to the 2001 census Heyshott parish covered 938 hectares and had 131 households with a total population of 309. This is also the homebase for this website.

Found Memories

In the tiny English village of Heyshott,
The weary traveler can find peace and rest.
Elizabethan cottages the landscape dot
Guarding against changes, preserving the best.

The meadowlarks sing; the snapdragons snap;
The violets and buttercups secretly converse;
In simple English gardens that paint pictures
Which inspire and enhance great English verse.

The wild strawberries know how superior they are.
Kissed by the sun, these berries so coy,
Have a flavor which excels all others by far.
Blessed are they who may taste and enjoy.

Such beautiful memories can be stored away
To come back to cheer on some dreary day.
