Approximately 90 miles long the A272 runs cross country from East Sussex into West Sussex then on to Winchester in Hampshire.

Most of the A272 passes through countryside, villages and small towns, with virtually no dual carriageways (just three very short sections between Petworth and Midhurst), often giving the driver an experience similar to English country roads as they were 40 to 50 years ago.
